What we want

The Instructional Designer III leads the design and development of innovative, high-quality online, hybrid, and face-to-face learning content in alignment with instructional design and pedagogical best practices. This position will collaborate with faculty, subject matter experts, and the Mays Business School staff to develop digitally enhanced courses that promote student engagement and interactivity with course content, peers, and instructors for programs, departments, and units across Mays Business School. Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four years of experience in instructional design or related experience in K-12 education, higher education, adult learning and literacy, or training and development.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Expert knowledge of quality course design and associated rubrics.

  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and instructional technologies.

  • Ability to apply best practices in project management.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to use Canvas and basic programming relating to digital learning environments (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.).

    Essential Duties/Tasks

Instructional Design

  • Oversees the development and maintenance of a portfolio of courses within an academic program.

  • Independently meets with faculty and subject matter experts to design and develop innovative, high-quality online, hybrid, and face-to-face learning content that promotes student engagement with course materials, the instructor, and peers.

  • Facilitates the learning design process by developing learning objectives that align with course materials and assignments.

  • Creates and curates learning content that is accessible, engaging, and promotes active learning.

  • Designs activities that promote interactivity with the content, between students, and between students and instructors.

  • Builds learning content in the TAMU Canvas environment.

  • Collaborates with faculty to locate and evaluate learning materials, including open educational resources (OER) and third-party media.

  • Provides training on copyright and fair use.

  • Works with subject matter experts (SMEs) on the planning of media assets, to include video, audio, graphics, and other appropriate media.

  • Recommends appropriate technology (including third-party tools) to incorporate into the learning content for each learning design project.

  • Provides support to the director in the learning design planning and execution processes.

Project Management

  • Applies project management practices to learning design projects from start to completion.

  • Monitors progress, anticipates and troubleshoots roadblocks, recalibrates deliverables and timelines, and communicates frequently with the director about the progress of all assigned projects.

  • Provides support to the director in tracking the activities and progress of all learning design projects to ensure course content remains current and student feedback is incorporated into future semesters.

  • Manages and maintains digital asset library for learning design projects.

  • Manages collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders through face-to-face, digital, and remote communication channels.

  • Delegates and oversees tasks as appropriate to other team members and student employees as appropriate.

Staff Development

  • Provides staff support to Instructional Designer I and Instructional Designer II teammates on the design and development of innovative course content, course quality, the strategic application of learning technologies, and intentional multimedia planning.

  • Models a commitment to remain abreast of emerging trends in online instruction, pedagogy, and tools particularly those related to copyright issues, accessibility, and the use of open educational resources.

  • Leads internal staff training and development activities under supervision of the director.

Faculty Development

  • Develops guides, resources, and training materials to support faculty with the learning design process and research-based best practices in teaching and learning across teaching modalities, and the digital learning environment.

  • Provides training to faculty on the LMS and other tools associated with the digital learning environments (e.g., instructional technologies, Zoom and other third-party tools).

Quality Assurance

  • Monitors quality assurance across all learning design projects by applying accessibility standards, Universal Design for Learning principles, and learning design best practices.

  • Tracks the quality of courses using a learning content quality rubric established as a standard by Mays Business School.

  • Collaborates with and leads projects that evaluate and implement process and quality improvements for learning design processes, policies, and guidelines.
