Summary All hourly jobs are considered as open for bid on a continuous basis. Responsibilities As a Machinist Foreman II, you will: Supervisory Responsibilities: Assign Duties. Plans and schedules work assignments to insure maximum utilization of resources and achievement of priority work within guidelines established by the Manager, General Craft Services. Maintain Discipline. Establishes standards of performance and conduct of employees supervised. Assists in insuring compliance with administrative regulations, procedures, and working rules. Enforce Safety Rules. Instructs subordinates in safety rules and safe work practices, including proper use of tools and equipment, safe driving techniques, fire prevention, evacuation procedures, and general housekeeping practices. Assures that equipment and work areas are free of hazards and that subordinates follow safe work practices as prescribed by regulations, laws, and standard shop practices. Organizes and conducts regular safety meetings. Investigates accidents involving persons under the jurisdiction of the Manager, General Craft Services. Completes required accident reports accurately and promptly. Perform, Reviews and Inspects Work. Performs productive work as time permits and reviews and inspects work of subordinates to insure complete and professional workmanship. Responsible for Quantity and Quality of Work Perform. The Machinist Foreman II is responsible and accountable to the Manager, General Craft Services for the satisfactory and timely completion of all assigned work performed in the Ross Machine Shop and work performed in field locations. Planning and Scheduling: Coordinate work schedules with other supervisors to avoid delays, meet deadlines, and satisfy priorities. Prepares and/or coordinates short-range work plans to accomplish workload, including preparation of time and material cost estimates. Works with commercial enterprises to meet workload requirements. Recommends and evaluates purchase of new tools and equipment required to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency. Administrative: Review Employees' Performance and Recommends Personnel Actions. Continuously evaluates employees` performance and initiates proper actions to provide job satisfaction, improve working skills, resolve employee problems, develop team spirit, and improve employee conduct. Recommends personnel actions to the Manager, General Craft Services. Identify, Plans, and Implement Training. Orients new employees to the work unit and explains the nature and purpose of work programs. Provides on-the-job training to improve skills and efficiency. Recommends to the Manager, General Craft Services off-the-job training to provide additional theory and skills required to maintain craft proficiency or supervisory advancement. Reports and Records. Prepares and forwards required documents relating to time, leave, per diem, work progress, materials, field purchases, and equipment. Reports problems to the Manager, General Craft Services relating to work, materials, safety, or personnel when these are of a nature requiring action by higher authority or referral to other offices of the Administration. Reports all accidents to the Manager, General Craft Services, providing a complete and accurate account of the accident. Assists in accounting for all tools and equipment in custody. The screen-out element for this position is: Experience and skill to successfully perform a Machinist Foreman II, BS-3414-00, is the ability to lead or supervise to accomplish works and trades in the planning of work assignments and operation of standard machine tools such as lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and grinders to close tolerances, including the assemble and disassemble, file, chip, scrape, ream, weld, braze, solder, or heat-treat such as annealing and tempering, incidental to machining operations as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed in the Ross Machine Shop. However, occasional field trips may be required to estimate and bid jobs, solving specific problems, or inspecting major jobs. Field work is performed both indoors and outdoors. The hazards include working around machinery with moving parts, working around energized, high voltage electrical equipment, working on ladders or scaffolding at heights up to 100 feet during inclement weather, and exposure to fumes, grease and oil, and constant noise. Workers are subject to minor cuts, bruises, falls, and burns. Proper respiratory and safety equipment shall be worn when hazardous substances are being handled (solvent fames, cleaners, epoxies, etc.). At times, work may be physically demanding. The work environment will occasionally include exposure to hazardous substances, (zinc etc.) that could, if precautions are not followed, pose a health risk. Emergencies, critical system conditions, or outage limitations, may require that work be systemwide, done at night, or under serious time pressures. System priorities may require extended periods of overtime including working weekends and holidays. PHYSICAL CONDITIONS The incumbent must be able to efficiently perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to themselves or others.
