Job Summary:Manufacturing Design Engineers Provide technical manufacturing support to a program from the early development phases through transition to production. They participate in manufacturing and test requirements development, design for manufacturing activities, manufacturing process development and factory capabilities analysis to ensure factory readiness and improve product producibility. They leverage technical knowledge of manufacturing capabilities, product technologies, factory requirements and business processes to establish and execute the manufacturing plan and influence technical program decisions to support the overall program value stream.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Acting as the manufacturing and producibility authority within the program

  • Applying manufacturing engineering skillsets across the extended value stream to resolve constraints and improve process and product designs

  • Recommending process and procedural changes to ensure that objectives in the areas of cost, efficiency, and quality are met

  • Designing, controlling, and improving the producibility of products through collaboration with a multi-disciplined team

  • Identifying and resolving constraints across the program

  • Participating in corrective action investigation

  • Providing technical input and peer review to engineering designs and design changes

  • Developing Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, labor standards, tool, and fixture designs

  • Providing technical guidance and problem solving to factory engineers

  • Leading and coordinating projects, efforts and improvements across the extended value streams using CORE principles

  • Developing influential relationships with internal customers

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience .

  • Experience within a manufacturing environment

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Access (ATF) clearance.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to identify, reduce and eliminate cost, quality and schedule constraints through technical engagements

  • Knowledge and ability to apply CORE principles and techniques

  • Technical drawing interpretation, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Proficiency with CAD solid modeling tools (preference for CREO/ProE)

  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to work across disciplines

  • Innovative mindset that drives continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and keeps pace with advances in technology

  • Experience interpreting and improving technical drawings

  • Experience communicating technical information to different audiences

  • Experience with technical writing

  • Experience with MRP systems

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PPT, Project, Word)

  • Proven written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills

  • Proven organizational skills with fine attention to detail

  • Experience with Manufacturing Readiness Assessments

  • Current DoD security clearance (secret)

  • Special Access for some positions

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
