SPI is seeking an individual to fill a full-time position as aSenior Civil Design Technician. The successful candidate will have least 6 years experience in civil engineering drafting/design. The Design Technician contributes to the design of civil engineering projects such as roadway, utilities, and drainage using software such as AutoCAD and Civil3D.

Typical Duties

The following duties are typical of the position, but are not all encompassing. Each person is expected to participate in whatever duties are required to deliver a quality product on schedule.

• Works from sketches, notes and other input material to produce computer-generated graphs, charts, overlays and completed drawings. Can complete finished product with limited direction.
• Accuracy, quality, completeness, and adherence to the schedule can be independently maintained.
• Maintains organized work environment and has responsibility to ensure drawings are completed on schedule.
• Develops and populates schedule sheets and details.
• Recommends new methods and procedures for completion of drawings.
• Understands and follows company standard CADD procedures for layering, etc., and standard drawing procedures for sheet layout. Suggests improvements to standard procedures.
• Receives and sets up drawing sheets with minimal direction from Engineers.
• Leads the plan production effort throughout a project but may serve as backup to other teams as needed.
• Ability to perform basic calculations, such as grades.
• Ability to notice, and bring to engineer's attention, issues related to construction during drawing development, such as utility conflicts.
• Checks own work prior to QA/QC review.
• Participates in assembly of specifications, bid proposals, and other elements of the contract documents.
• Assists with creation of detailed opinion of probable construction cost.

Job Requirements

• Associate Degree or Certificate in Computer Aided Design (CAD) preferred (will consider years experience in lieu of degree)
• Has mastered the qualifications, knowledge, and experience required by the Design Technician position.
• Has completed some technical education in CAD terminal operation and AutoCAD software operation.
• Minimum 6 years of CAD operation in a related engineering environment.
• Understands some aspects of design specialty and use and recognizes technical symbols and abbreviations.
• Attends in-house seminars and continuing education outside of office.
• Ability to train and supervise junior level technicians.
• Experience in water and wastewater engineering desired
• Ability to work in a team environment on numerous projects
