Hubbell Electric Heater Co Purchasing Supervisor in Stratford, Connecticut

Summary

The Purchasing Supervisor coordinates and is responsible for direct material sourcing and purchasing in the achievement of Company objectives. Activities include sourcing and procuring goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and outside services by performing the duties described below.

The Purchasing Supervisor possesses a strong, solid background in purchasing and supply chain management, and takes a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations, and implementing changes assuring the Company continues forward in securing quality suppliers of materials and services in line with price, lead time reduction, and quality targets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provides work direction, daily management, and oversight of the Purchasing Department

Monitors and controls costs, lead time reduction, and inventory levels as needed for production and cash flow.

Reviews requisitions and travelers. Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.

Works closely with all departments to meet and maintain schedules, new product development, and quality.

Estimates values when needed according to knowledge of market price.

Suggests method of procurement such as direct purchase or indirect.

Actively manages vendor relationships.

Proactive in identifying areas of cost reduction and fosters environment of continuous improvement utilizing the Companys MRP (Epicor) software package to the full capability of the software and as appropriate to Company operations.

Works cross functionally across all Company departments including Engineering, Production Planning, Job Coordinating, Accounting, Production, and Quality Control to ensure company goals and objectives are met.

Reviews purchase orders and bid requests.

Performs detailed evaluation and analysis of bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations.

Maintains procurement records including items or services purchased, cost, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.

Reviews defective or unacceptable goods/ services with inspection or quality control personnel, production, vendors, and others to determine disposition and takes appropriate action.

Approves invoices for payment.

Supervises Expeditor in delivery of materials as necessary to maintain schedule.

Prepares PO Expedite Report and Inventory Reorder Report and takes necessary action to remedy deficiencies.

Perform other duties as necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has direct supervisory responsibility for Buyers and Junior Buyers.

Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors or Associate degree in business administration, or equivalent with relevant work experience.

Two to three years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Relevant user experience with Epicor or similar ERP/MRP systems preferred. Preferred: Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), Certified Professional Purchasing Manager (CPPM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), or ability to obtain certification credentials within a reasonable time frame (1 year)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Language Skills:Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write effective correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors, management, and other employees of the organizatio .

Mathematical Skills:Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Requirements

General office / warehouse environment. Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks. May occasionally involve repetitive movements.

Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, bend, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 35 pounds or less.

Multi-tasking with frequent interruptions.

Occasionally write by hand, use a telephone, twist, bend, stoop, and squat.

Work Environment

General office and manufacturing environment. May require extensive work hours during peak business planning cycles.
