Job Description

Oversees scheduling, budgeting, recruiting, work-outs, travel arrangements, and game planning for a specific athletic program. Performs tasks related to game administration of sporting events hosted by Tarleton State University. Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). ; Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Leadership: Oversees all aspects of the men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs, including daily operations, scheduling, budget management, and fundraising.

Coaching and Instruction: Provides effective coaching and instruction to student-athletes in all specific technical skill areas. Mentor student-athletes in their athletic and personal development, emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline.

Recruitment: Attends events to evaluate prospective student-athlete talent. Maintain communication with prospects through various channels, including email, phone, and in-person meetings. Recruit student-athletes who meet the academic and athletic standards of Tarleton State University.

Compliance: Ensures compliance with all NCAA and conference rules and regulations, including but not limited to recruiting, eligibility, and program operations. Complete all necessary compliance and institutional documentation.

Academic Support: Collaborates with academic support staff to monitor student-athletes' academic progress and ensure adherence to academic standards. Prioritize the academic success and well-being of student-athletes.

Personnel Management: Directly supervises assistant coaches and oversee all staff disciplinary actions. Takes responsibility for other personnel management duties as necessary to maintain an effective coaching staff.

Promotion and Public Relations: Promotes the track and field/cross country programs to the public, media, donors, and the University community. Increases visibility and support for the programs through strategic marketing and outreach efforts.

Other Duties: Fulfills additional responsibilities as assigned by athletic administration, including the Vice President and Director of Athletics and Sport Supervisor.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university

  • Five (5) years of collegiate coaching experience; preferable as a head coach

  • Thorough understanding of NCAA rules and regulations

  • Demonstrated success in coaching and development of track and field athletes

  • Strong recruiting abilities and experience evaluating athletic talent

  • Proficiency in budget management

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to establish good rapport and working relationships with student-athletes, coaching staffs, administration, university personnel, and the general public

  • Computer literacy, including proficiency with relevant software and tools

Salary:

Commensurate with experience

Salary is commensurate with experience and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
