Amazon Print Production Designer, Device Packaging Experience in San Francisco, California

Amazon.com is looking for a talented PRINT PRODUCTION DESIGNER to join our packaging design team. The ideal candidate will have the ability to deliver clean, print-ready artwork in a fast-paced environment, and extend and adapt our design system as needed. This position requires strong organizational skills, print expertise, typesetting skills, color management skills, and acute attention to detail. The ability to undertake multiple projects and communicate with key stakeholders is essential. An online portfolio demonstrating printed production work and mechanical artwork is REQUIRED.

Responsibilities include:

  • Adapting and producing artwork

  • Editing presentation decks

  • Assisting with soft-/hard-proof reviews

  • Coordinating with external vendors

  • Optimizing images and assets for print

  • Retouching and color-correcting images

  • Helping build and update guidelines

  • Documenting processes and best practices

  • Completing multiple tasks on tight deadlines

  • Managing press checks (virtually or in-person)

  • Helping maintain lab equipment

About the team

The VX (Visual Experience) team is a diverse group of creative professionals who support each other, all of whom have been on this team for at least 3 years, some as long as 11 years! We are passionate about packaging and print, as well as sustainability and accessibility. Our goal is to help reduce our carbon footprint while increasing our impact on customers worldwide, and we hope you can be a part of fulfilling our vision for creating Amazon's most sustainable and accessible packaging ever!

Basic Qualifications

  • Qualifications:

    • 4+ years experience in a design/production environment
    • Significant experience with print and/or packaging
    • BA/BS in Design or equivalent
    • Excellent Adobe Illustrator and InDesign skills
    • Proficiency in Photoshop
    • Excellent attention to detail and self-QC
    • Strong communication skills
    • Self-motivated and capable of working independently
    • Ability to create and maintain scalable solutions
    • Color assessment and correction skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multi-language artwork experience

  • International packaging experience

  • Illustration editing or creation skills

  • Experience with design for sustainability

  • Experience with design for accessibility

  • Experience with or interest in AI

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Strong communication skills

  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently

  • Note that this is NOT a UX/UI role – significant experience in PRINT is necessary!

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
