X Energy LLC Mechanical Design Engineer in Rockville, Maryland

X-energyis seeking professionals to join our Commercialteam in the role ofEngineer III, Mechanical Design. This position will be responsible forthe design and development of mechanical systems and components. This includes concept development, evaluation of concepts, analysis of systems and components for their ability to perform their intended function, and ensuring they meet all technical specifications and requirements. They will ensure the development of the systems and components through production including any necessary prototyping, testing, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical/physical concepts, design and support development of processes to create structures systems and components (SSCs). Understand how nuclear safety relates to system engineering and the work performed on a day-to-day occurrence.
  • Identify, collect, and document applicable requirements, interfaces, design basis and criteria by coordinating with key stakeholders/systems engineers and support identifying applicable industry codes and standards and the direction of senior engineers and systems engineers.
  • Create and maintain CAD-generated engineering models.
  • Planning for the analysis required to assess aspects of the SSCs to ensure they can perform their intended functions and meet technical specifications and requirements.
  • Perform computations utilizing hand calculations and analytical tools for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other scoping calculations as required at the direction of senior engineers and systems engineers to ensure SSCs can meet technical requirements.
  • Support the assessment of SSCs for manufacturability as well as assembly and integration considerations at the direction of senior engineers.
  • Perform work in accordance with X-energy quality procedures for design and configuration management to ensure project quality requirements are met.
  • Write and develop design documentation including design basis documents, technical reports, calculations, and drawings in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Provide independent reviews and acceptance reviews of engineering deliverables and data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Minimum Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university required.
  • 5-9 years of experience in an engineering role required (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience).
  • Masters degree strongly preferred.
  • Nuclear experience at an operating plant is strongly preferred.
  • Background in system design consulting is preferred.
  • Proficiency with engineering hand calculations is required.
  • Familiarity with analytical software with a focus on performing structural, fluid dynamics or thermal-hydraulic calculations is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team to produce desired outputs in short turnaround times.
  • Technical proficiency in fundamentals of mechanical design for structural and fluidic components, mechanisms, or manufacturing and processing equipment is preferred.
  • Communications proficiency - strong oral and written communications skills are required.
  • Ability to adapt to and use various computer application platforms is required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, outlook, teams or similar software and pdf editing and markup tools.
