Amazon Sr. System Development Engineer, Customer Terminal in Redmond, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Come work at Amazon!

Key job responsibilities

As a Customer Terminal System Development Engineer, you will be responsible for Customer Terminal (CT) integration, firmware/software development, implementation, test and validation of various CT configurations. You will be working in a collaborative environment with a multi-disciplinary team. In this role, your responsibilities include:

• Define CT systems architectures/sub-systems and specifications

• Design tradeoffs of various CT architectures including RF and performance simulation to support tradeoff decisions

• Develop integration & test Software & Firmware for lab verification measurements.

• Develop, maintain, and support customer terminal validation hardware

• Proactive engagement with internal and external development partners on Systems’ hardware and software architectures and implementation

• Ensure delivered work meets technical, functional, performance, regulatory and business requirements

• Perform in-field test and validation of various CT architectures

• Expect up to 20% of travel depending on the phases of the projects

A day in the life

As a Sr Sys Dev on the Kuiper Customer Terminal Team, you will work daily with hardware, RF, antenna, silicon, product design engineers, and the Operations team in a collaborative environment. Your focus will be on architecting, integrating, and verifying customer terminal functional performance to ensure they delight our customers.

About the team

The Kuiper Customer Terminal team is responsible for developing both outdoor & indoor devices, enabling customers internet service via the Kuiper satellite network. We own the entire process from early prototypes through mass production including requirements documents, architecture definition, hardware development, and all integration/verification testing.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Redmond, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience

  • 4+ years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience

  • 3+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience

  • Experience leading the design, build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production

  • BS or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field

  • 7+ years in SW/HW development environment with at least 5 recent years in architectural/system role

  • 7+ years experience in development for complex telecommunication, high speed digital, and/or satellite communication systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers

  • Master/PhD degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

  • Familiar with satellite communication theory

  • Familiar with phased array designs and implementations

  • Satellite over-the-air Communication field-trial experience

  • Debugging skills for systems integration from RF front-end to baseband

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
