Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) is seeking a Composites Materials & Process Engineer to join the BR&T Manufacturing Technology Integration (MTI) team in Frederickson , WA.

Our team is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including a mid-level and senior engineer.

This role will provide technology integration support for the manufacturing of various composites structures at the Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA) Fabrication Manufacturing Business Unit (MBU) in Frederickson, WA. You must be able to work in a cross-functional work environment including engineering, quality, production, and program management.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Defines requirements, approves, and deploys tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of products/tools/equipment

  • Produces specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes

  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations

  • Promotes standardization across business activities

  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application to business needs

  • Develops and qualifies new tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes to meet requirements. Integrates new technologies as appropriate

  • Manages test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements

  • Conducts analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts, or processes

  • Implements corrective and preventive actions

  • Designs, develops, and qualifies computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements

  • Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements

  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design, and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

  • Leads others and work statement, assists in defining strategies and/or provides consultation

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • Experience in Composite Materials Development

  • Experience in aerospace, fabrication, or manufacturing

  • 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 7+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly of composites structures

  • 7+ years of experience working thermoset composites manufacturing of aircraft structures

  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly of composites structures

  • Experience with manufacturing of composites wing and empennage structures

  • Familiarity with aerospace materials and process engineering

  • Experience with composite and elastomers and associated processing techniques

  • Strong project planning, management, and execution skills.

  • Experience in completing requirements-driven materials and process analysis and compiling detailed engineering reports.

  • Coordinates across multiple organizations/sites to engage appropriately skilled employees to work on projects.

  • Prepares annual department budget and manages it throughout year (headcount and expenditures). Prepares monthly budgetary status reports.

  • Works with site Senior Leadership to align projects with factory needs. Participates in strategy meetings to create/update technology roadmap.

  • Must be able to gain trust of shop employees, technical staff and leadership, working with them seamlessly to ensure successful project implementation.

Typical Education/Experience:

Mid-Level (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range for mid-level: $102,000 - $138,000

Summary pay range for senior: $124,950 - $169,050
