Department Information

The School of Engineering at Colorado State University Pueblo offers five undergraduate programs (in civil, industrial, and mechatronics engineering; civil engineering technology; and construction management) as well as two graduate programs in engineering at the master’s level. CSU Pueblo serves a diverse student body and is dedicated to interdisciplinary learning and entrepreneurship that elevates our people and our community, creates educational opportunities, fosters unique collaborations, and supports inclusion, access, and affordability as a gateway to the world.

The School of Engineering provides engineering courses to support, among other programs, the BS in Civil Engineering (BSCE), the BS in Engineering (BSE) with specialization in mechatronics, BS in Industrial Engineering (BSIE), MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering (MSISE), MS in Mechatronics Engineering (MSME), a minor in Engineering, a minor in Industrial Engineering, and a pre-Engineering program for students who plan to transfer elsewhere for other engineering majors. The department performs research in engineering and provides service to the college, university, the southern Colorado region, and the world. Engineering labs include an Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Center, metals lab, machine shop, measurement lab, mechatronics lab with computer work stations using NI ELVIS equipment and LabVIEW, nanotechnology lab, virtual reality lab, 3D printing lab, and a robotics lab. Faculty members are involved in research on energy planning, manufacturing issues in nanotechnology, 3D printing technologies, biomedical devices, logistics, mathematical models for decision making, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and engineering education.

As part of the School of Engineering, the civil engineering (CE) and civil engineering technology (CET) programs are two degree programs through which the School of Engineering develops competent graduates prepared to design elements or subsystems of the Built Environment.

Description of Job

The faculty member for this tenure-track position will teach courses in structural engineering, transportation engineering, water and environmental engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering. In addition, the individual must be willing and able to teach at least three of the following foundational engineering science courses: Engineering Surveying, Engineering Graphics, Engineering Statics, Engineering Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics, and Civil Engineering Materials.

Position will begin in August, 2024.

Primary Duties

Teaching

Teaching baccalaureate civil engineering courses (including laboratory courses) for the civil engineering and civil engineering technology degree programs in accordance with disciplinary expectations. Teaching entails full participation of the faculty member in all activities that support the teaching and learning process, including: preparing and presenting course materials; assessing and evaluating student performance; supporting student success initiatives at the school, college and institutional levels; providing academic support to students outside the classroom, selecting and ordering text books. It also includes developing new courses, recommending program modifications and making necessary adjustments to the curriculum in order to maintain its validity to the civil engineering profession and construction industry.

Scholarship

Engage in scholarly and creative activities that result in peer-reviewable products such as project reports, external and internal grant proposals, conference papers, seminar presentations, books and/or manuals. Scholarly work should include undergraduate and graduate students in research when possible and appropriate.

Service

Provide service to the department, college, institution and community by participating in activities such as student advising, student recruiting, serving on committees and task teams that support the shared governance of the program, department, college or institution. Participation in service activities includes outreach to the local community and intellectual service to the profession at local, national and international levels.

Salary Range

$72,800-$82,000 per nine-month academic year.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in civil or environmental engineering conferred by position start date AND

B.S. degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program or a substantially equivalent program

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Commitment to value diversity, equity and inclusion in engineering education

  • Experience in a position or activity that required excellent verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Developed specialty or experience in a civil engineering sub-discipline such as structural engineering, hydraulics and water resources Engineering, or Environmental engineering

  • Demonstrated interest and strength in engineering surveying, civil engineering graphics, computer applications, engineering sciences including statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics

  • Licensure or certification such as Professional Engineer, Registered Engineer, Engineer in Training

  • Experience using (or training to use) computer-related technology as an educational tool for the development and delivery of instruction

  • Teaching experience in a civil engineering or civil engineering technology program

  • Industry or research experience in surface water hydraulics, storm water management, water treatment, or structures
