Exciting Opportunity for a Design Draughtsperson

This is an exciting opportunity for a Design Draughtsperson to join a vibrant business undergoing significant growth and looking to further develop its engineering capabilities.

As a design draughtsperson you will be joining a small design team where you will be responsible for creating 3D models, 2D layouts and completing the engineering drawings of multi-stage steam turbines components and their associated ancillary system packages. You will be expected to work independently and with the minimum of supervision once you are up to speed with our products. Your designs will need to meet stringent customer specifications, be delivered on time, in full, to schedule and budget.

This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week. We offer hybrid working for this role which will allow you to enjoy the balance of home working and collaboration time with the team in our modern, friendly offices which include free onsite parking.

What Needs To Be Done?

  • Follow the relevant design process for the department Create solid models for parts using SolidWorks

  • Use the solid models to generate manufacturing drawings to enable production from either in-house or sub contract locations

  • Create Bill of Materials

  • Utilise PDM Vault and in-house MRP systems to compile design structures, items lists and create demand.

  • Support Sales/Applications in the production of Interface Control Documents, General Arrangement drawings and/or P&IDs for bid tendering purposes Work efficiently and effectively to complete drawings on time, in full, and right first time

  • Work closely with the Systems Engineers and Design Engineers to ensure the design gives priority to integrity, safety and reliability.

  • Ensure agreed customer specifications are met and implemented throughout the scope of supply

  • Create material for, and participate in internal and customer facing design reviews

  • Continually develop and improve products and processes to improve quality, cost and delivery

  • Work safely and ensure safety practices are followed at all times

  • Assist in the development of steam turbines units to enhance the product portfolio of the business

  • Interact with clients to ensure customer satisfaction and specifications are met

  • Develop automated approaches to work execution

  • Work with other departments to ensure a full solution is produced

  • Generate best practices to be used within the business − Identify possible process improvements that could be implemented and detail the benefits of implementation

To be successful you must have …

  • Knowledge and experience of SolidWorks

  • Knowledge and experience of PDM Vault

  • Strong understanding of P&ID drawings and experience of constructing them

  • Experience of drawing piping systems

  • Experience of drawing structural baseplates

  • Experience of using surface modelling using SolidWorks

  • Strong experience of ancillary system package design

  • Comprehensive understanding of complex Bill of Material structures

  • Experience of dealing with complex customer specifications

  • HNC, HND or higher with the relevant industrial experience in Engineering

It’s a bonus if you have (but not essential) ..

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry and/or similar heavy engineering environments

  • Knowledge and experience of rotating equipment - preferably steam turbines

  • Experience with alternate CAD systems e.g. AutoCAD, Inventor etc

  • Understanding of and experience in the use of geometrical tolerancing
