This position is an "at-will" appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules. Position Purpose The purpose of this position is to coordinate and implement the Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) intentional academic and career advising strategies for diverse part-time adult learners looking to complete their degree or gain an academic or professional certificate. This position serves as a point person for the PaCE student population from onboarding through graduation, including supporting new student admission, financial aid access, academic and career advising, registration, etc. The position works with the PaCE recruitment team to advise prospective students with questions about the curriculum and to align recruitment communications, i.e., campaigns, promotional materials, and events. The position also shares adult learner expertise with others who advise a similar population. For example, the position provides leadership and expertise to PaCE faculty and Academic and Career Advising staff on all aspects of adult learner advising to achieve increased retention and persistence of a diverse adult student population. This position also serves as a member of a cross-divisional team to strengthen services for adult learner students. Nature and Scope The position reports to the Director of Academic and Career Advising and plays a central role in implementing and maintaining institutional knowledge and a framework of academic and career advising for students in the school of Professional and Continuing Education. This incumbent works in close collaboration with the Dean for PaCE and others on the PaCE team as the principal for academic and career advising strategies for PaCE that includes programming relevant to certificate offerings, Prior Learning from Experience, degree completion paths, and related undergraduate curricular options. In the lead role of advising PaCE students, this position is part of the Academic and Career Advising team and regularly collaborates with other staff and faculty units on both the Olympia and Tacoma campuses. This position also represent advising perspectives in planning for new-curriculum development.
