SYNCOM SPACE SERVICES LLC Mechanical Engineer in New Orleans, Louisiana

Purpose of the Position

Provides engineering support for preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and facility operations activities on NASA critical systems.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities of the Position

  • Oversees the preventative maintenance program for critical systems related to the SLS program and other facility operations. Executes maintenance project objectives, installation schedules, and purchase requirements necessary to complete assigned tasks and projects.
  • Provides technical assistance and engineering support on corrective maintenance activities related to critical systems; interfacing with other departments to resolve emergent issues.
  • Creates and revises preventative and corrective maintenance instructions, technical documents, specifications, and Scopes of Work.
  • Evaluates and monitors maintenance activities and projects for adherence to budget; technical requirements, and schedules.
  • Develops and implements best practice maintenance methods and procedures to improve maintenance efficiency.
  • Oversees contractors in the performance of their contractual obligations; ensuring specifications and budgets are satisfactorily met.
  • Maintains authoritative knowledge of critical systems across the facility, being familiar with the various system's drawings, configuration, and operation.
  • Monitors systems and equipment performance and recommends actions to resolve operational deficiencies, improve performance, increase reliability, and improve energy efficiency.
  • Uses engineering knowledge and calculations to troubleshoot issues with mechanical systems/equipment and to solve maintenance problems.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a minimum of 3 years experience in an engineering capacity.
  • Two or more years of facilities maintenance experience desired
  • Demonstrated ability to perform maintenance engineering functions
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to create Scopes of Work and Work Plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise outside contractors
  • Familiar with RCM and PTandI philosophies and practices.

Other Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
  • Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid drivers license.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Dexterity to operate office and field equipment as required by the position.

Preferences

  • Prior knowledge of NASA site, experienced with working on government installations preferred.
