Purpose

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Facilities Technician will be the point person in the absence of the Facilities Manager. The Facilities Technician collaborates with the Facilities Technicians, Environmental Service Workers and with Program Staff to safely implement the repair and maintenance of physical assets, grounds, facilities, equipment and utilities; to monitor the security of occupants and property, and to supervise building occupants and others pursuant to programs and operations to ensure goals are achieved and that the property and improvements are clean, safe, healthy, and may be fully used productively, comfortably, economically and safely, at all times by residents, staff, volunteers, visitors, and others. Facilities Technicians are mindful of the clients served by Columbus House and seek to maintain a physical environment that reflects the core values of Trauma Informed Service: Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration, and empowerment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists, maintain records of scheduled procedures, and identify and recommend improvements pursuant to maintenance, security, and programs and operations.
  • Complete all required?safety training?on time as assigned by the company.
  • Replace and?repair?building?finishes such as ceiling tiles, door hardware, and can paint walls,?piping, floors, and equipment etc.
  • Perform minor repair and maintenance of all physical assets, buildings, facilities, grounds, and utilities.
  • Inspect physical assets, buildings, facilities, grounds, and utilities and identify items in need of maintenance or repair; ensure assets and facility occupants are safe and secure.
  • Clean and maintain grounds including but not limited to grass cutting, shrub pruning, snow removal and de-icing.
  • Reliably and safely transport other staff, materials, supplies and tools as required throughout the state of Connecticut.
  • Cleanup after yourself when completing a project.
  • Assist with Environmental Services when required.
  • Use the EMAINT work order system.
  • Complete all required documentation and reporting.
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations and customer concerns.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

High School Graduate or equivalent.

Able to follow directions and accept supervision.

Skill, knowledge, and experience, pursuant to safe work practices, occupational hazards, and safety precautions involved in general property security, grounds, and maintenance work; safe and efficient operation, use, and maintenance of a variety of basic hand tools and equipment; chemicals and other products used to perform routine maintenance and custodial work.

Assist with troubleshooting and?repairs?of buildings and installed systems to include HVAC,? lumbing?systems, kitchen equipment, roofs, drains, shop, and grounds equipment.

The interpersonal skills required to maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, building occupants, volunteers, public officials, visitors, etc.; and the ability to work independently or cooperatively as a member of a team.

Excellent organizational and time management skills with a deadline-oriented mindset.
