Lacework Cloud Software Engineer, Cloud Efficiency in Mountain View, California

WHY LACEWORK NEEDS YOU

Our team is responsible for identifying and executing cost-saving opportunities, providing engineering teams meaningful visibility into spend, and empowering finance to understand and incorporate the complexities of cloud costs.

This is part engineering role and part BI role that will partner with Engineering and Finance to help model, forecast and correlate cloud usage and spend. You will dig deep into cloud costs to help provide deeper meaning to Lacework’s cloud spend and leverage those learnings to drive and implement those optimizations across service teams.

The ideal candidate is a software engineer who knows how to apply engineering principles to infrastructure and is business-minded. You are a leader and team player with a transformational mindset. You can adapt seamlessly into the organization, are technically savvy, work cross-functionally, and enjoy diving deep into a system to understand and optimize it. You keep up with the major cloud providers’ product offerings and have the hands-on expertise to design, deploy, and optimize cloud services.

Your Role:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the Lacework platform and the cloud technologies it’s built on.

  • Identify bottlenecks and/or improvements in our architecture, algorithms, infrastructure, and other areas to improve efficiency and reduce cost.

  • Implement cost optimization improvements for our infrastructure on Snowflake, AWS, Azure, and GCP.

  • Develop and/or identify strategies to efficiently use and optimize cloud technologies and services.

  • Analyze data patterns deriving insights to inform and influence architecture and technology decisions and present solutions to engineering and product leadership.

  • Establish and track key performance and cost metrics as service level objectives (SLOs) that Engineering and Operations can track towards.

  • Work with our cloud vendors to identify changes, alternative implementations, and drive new features that will drive cost savings and/or increase efficiency.

  • Drive projects/technical initiatives and architectural/service improvements.

  • Drive regular operational and cost reviews with leadership.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in a large-scale, cloud-native business.

  • Hands-on expertise to design, deploy and optimize cloud services and expenditure, preferably both in AWS and GCP.

  • Software development background and demonstrated proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, Go, or Java.

  • Experience with data visualization, SQL, and building dashboards using large datasets.

  • Deep understanding and proficiency with common IaaS services/components and architectures.

  • Passion for optimization and curiosity to deeply understand how systems work.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Desire to build systems and computers that reason for us.

  • Cloud certifications or other demonstrable cloud domain knowledge.

  • Experience with monitoring & observability systems like Prometheus or DataDog and tools or frameworks like telegraf and OpenTracing.

  • Believe everything should be “as code”.

Salary Range: $148k - $204k USD Annually + Benefits (https://www.lacework.com/careers/) + Bonus + Equity
