JOB SUMMARY:

The Software Engineering Manager is highly proficient in software development and team leadership. With a successful track record of delivering high-quality software across multiple platforms, this role involves managing the Simulator System’s Team, which produces software related to aircraft simulation. Collaborating with project engineers, team leads, developers, and program managers, the Software Engineering Manager ensures the delivery of high-fidelity software for our TRU Products. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position plays a critical role in driving software excellence.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Thoroughly review software specifications, architectural designs, test plans, and code to ensure quality and adherence to best practices.

  • Collaborate with the development team to identify areas for improvement and optimization.

  • Work closely with the team to produce robust and scalable software architecture designs.

  • Provide technical guidance on architectural decisions, ensuring alignment with overall project goals.

  • Collaborate with product management to define and prioritize product enhancements and features.

  • Balance technical feasibility, business impact, and user needs.

  • Collaborate with project managers and project engineers to define software tasks, acceptance criteria, and detailed designs.

  • Translate high-level requirements into actionable development tasks.

  • Prepare simulator systems design and architect approaches for proposal submissions.

  • Provide labor estimations for budgets and project schedules.

  • Supervise group members, identifying and resolving technical and interpersonal issues.

  • Allocate team resources based on individual skills, knowledge, and abilities.

  • Oversee the creation and validation of simulator systems product development specifications.

  • Ensure alignment with project requirements and quality standards.

  • Work with top level management to define and recruit top talent.

  • Set performance goals for team members, evaluate their progress, and provide coaching and professional development opportunities.

  • Develop and motivate leaders and highly functional teams.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer or Software Engineering or related technical field required

  • 8 years of Software Design experience required and at least 3 years of leading or managing development teams

  • 5 years of Aircraft Simulator Experience preferred

QUALIFICATONS:

  • Experience with C software developers

  • Experience with Linux and Windows

  • Experience with software design methodologies and best coding standards

  • Strong technical and business aptitude

  • Strong project management skills and keen attention to detail

  • Experience working with customers and product managers to identify business needs and translate those into software requirements

  • Focused on driving change and continuous improvement

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Professionally mature interpersonal skills

  • Ability to interact with executives

  • Creative problem-solver
