Description

We are seeking a Controller based in Los Angeles, California, in the legal industry. This role primarily involves the management of non-legal activities across all departments, with a strong focus on overseeing the financial operations of the firm. The Controller will work closely with other departments to ensure financial management is effectively implemented.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day non-legal activities to ensure the achievement of financial objectives.

• Manage the financial operations and activities in the Accounting Department.

• Ensure compliance and consistency in accounting policies and procedures.

• Take initiative across core accounting areas, including treasury, cash management, and reporting.

• Oversee billing, collections, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting.

• Regularly interact with other departments such as Information Technology and Human Resources for financial management assistance.

• Prepare accounting documents for partnership meetings and ensure the timely filing of all tax filings.

• Oversee the preparation of the monthly income statement and balance sheet, including all related account reconciliations and monthly close process.

• Monitor cash flow and manage capital requirements.

• Review vendor contracts and renewals, including facilities management.

• Ensure accuracy of equity partners' capital/draw accounts.

• Participate in the development of overall firm accounting, billing, and finance procedures, ensuring timely compliance with protocols set by the Managing Partners and the Partnership.

Requirements • Must possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in a Controller role or similar position

• Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems is required

• Experience with ADP - Financial Services is highly desirable

• Knowledge of DCAA regulations and guidelines is necessary

• Familiarity with ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning and ERP Solutions is essential

• Proven experience with Accounting Functions, including Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Experience with Auditing and Budget Processes is a must

• Proficiency in Trust Account and Trust accounting is required

• Familiarity with Aderant software is beneficial

• Experience with Month End Close, Month-end Close Activities, and Month-end Financial processes is necessary

• Ability to handle Monthly Balance Sheet, Monthly Bank Reconciliation, and Monthly Financial Reporting is a must

• Knowledge of Monthly Sales Tax and Sales Tax laws and regulations is beneficial

• Proficiency in Adjusting Journal Entries and Journal Entries is essential

• Ability to Prepare Trial Balance and manage Trial Balance is required

• Familiarity with General Ledger processes and systems is necessary

• Must have the ability to work legally in the United States

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check

• Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills

• Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing business needs is required

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions is necessary

• Must have a strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, is required

• Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; an advanced degree or professional certification such as a CPA is preferred.
