These positions will be filled at either the Engineered Systems Tec 3/4 level, depending on the skills and experience of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Test Engineering Group (E-14) is responsible for system level testing in support of LANLs stockpile stewardship mission. This includes project initiation, experimental design and analysis, hardware design and analysis, fabrication for small component level up to full scale integrated tests, and fielding of diagnostics and associated data acquisition during the test. Test activities will include collaborations with W- and Q-Divisions, the hydrodynamic test program, dynamic materials experimental programs, joint test operations with Sandia and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, and supporting experiments performed at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). Projects vary widely from component level to full system level testing component.

The Test Engineering group (E-14) of the Engineering, Technology and Design Division (E) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking an Engineered Systems Tech to support LANL's stockpile stewardship mission. The successful applicant will be engaged in component, subsystem, and system testing within the Data Acquisition and Instrumentation team. Testing activities require working in a team environment with other technicians, engineers, and scientists within LANL, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Department of Defense (DOD) and other institutions to perform successful experimental operations. These operations include but are not limited to: wiring/cabling, installing connector interfaces for instrumentation, application of diagnostics, assisting in collection of experimental data, and assisting with assembly and disassembly operations of experimental weapon assemblies. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to travel periodically to other sites within the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE).

The Engineered Systems Tech is responsible for supporting the test processes by performing supporting tasks such as instrumentation layout and installation, data acquisition equipment interfacing and other similar tasks. Compliance with LANL and facility safety and security practices and delivering accurate test results in a team effort are central to all testing efforts. Additional job responsibilities include participating in the development of new testing technologies and assisting with fielding experiments. Performance of job responsibilities will require working in controlled hazardous environments that may include radiation generating devices, radioactive materials, high explosives (HE), and other hazardous materials.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Ability to work well in a team setting or as an individual.

• Familiarity with soldering techniques and operations.

• Demonstrated ability to maintain a high standard of individual responsibility, work quality, and work ethic.

• Experience working on intricate and detailed assemblies.

• Familiarity with a variety of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and AC/DC power supplies.

• Proficient in working from hand sketches, verbal communication, technical manuals, schematics, MIL specs, utilizing a variety of tools, test equipment, problem-solving techniques and effective communication skills.

• Demonstrated record of developing constructive, cooperative working relationships and working with teams to meet deliverables.

• Demonstrated effective and efficient written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks, rapid changes in priority, and in a highly dynamic work environment.

Additional Job Requirements at the Higher Level:

• Apply journey person level extensive knowledge and skills to complete specialized tasks and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Responsible for the development or review of Integrated Work Documents (IWD), procedures, and work instructions. Coordinates hazard analysis team. Serves as the Person in Charge (PIC).

• Provide mentorship of junior technicians.

Engineered Systems Tech 3 Education Required: This position requires an Associate's Degree in Electronics/related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Engineered Systems Tech 4 Education Required: This position requires an Associate's Degree in Electronics/related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experienced or familiar with applying diagnostics such as accelerometers, strain gages, and thermocouples for data collection.

• Experience with data acquisition systems.

• Experience working in diverse environments including laboratories and outdoor sites.

• Knowledge of environmental testing activities including thermal, shock and vibration, and mechanical testing.

• Active DOE Q clearance

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
