Unifin International, a Wabtec Company in London, Ontario, was originally founded in the 1920’s. We are an electric equipment cooling company, focused on the power generation and transmission markets. Our primary business is within North America, but we reach worldwide from legacy fossil fuel and nuclear plants to growing renewable energy power grids.

Who will you be working with?

As a member of the team at Unifin International, you will be working with two other machinists in our Machine Shop Department. You will report to the Production Supervisor and work within a group of 31 unionized employees.

How will you make a difference?

We are looking for a machinist who has the knowledge and confidence to improve our machine shop with today’s tooling technology and efficiencies. Our machine shop consists of two (2) Haas Vertical CNC’s, one (1) Quickmill Vertical CNC, two (2) large radial arm drills and one (1) new conventional lathe. Unifin manufactures a specially-designed product that requires special machining knowledge.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Able to work as an individual or with other departments to meet customer demands and expectations;

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a fast-paced machine shop environment running CNC and conventional machines;

  • Possess strong mechanical knowledge and understanding of machining principles;

  • Proficient in reading job drawings and interpreting engineering specifications;

  • Experience with operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment;

  • Master Cam is a plus.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Always thinking of safety first;

  • Program G-Code using Master Cam;

  • Set up and manually program CNC vertical mills;

  • Set up and operate conventional lathe;

  • Set up and operate 6-foot radial arm drill;

  • Develop, determine correct jigs and fixtures for various parts to be machined;

  • Review production schedule and manage time according to workload and machine capacity;

  • Review job drawings to ensure tooling and fixturing is available;

  • Work with tooling suppliers to determine the best tooling technology needed for Unifin’s machining processes;

  • Monitor the speeds and feeds of machines during the machining process;

  • Read drawings, calculate dimensions and tolerances using measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to meet Unifin’s Quality standards;

  • Lift parts with jib cranes and overhead cranes;

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with machines or tools as needed;

  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles is a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee will occasionally lift and or move up to 50 bs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception.

Safety glasses, steel-toed safety shoes and hearing protection must be worn for the entirety of the shift.

Benefits of Working at Unifin International

Wages: First six months – probation - $29.17 + $1.17 COLA* = $30.34

After probation – full rate - $32.41 + $1.17 COLA* = $33.58

COLA* - adjusted quarterly

Day shift – 40-hour work week; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Annual vacation; company-paid holidays;
