Island School Middle School 'Olelo Hawai'i Teacher in Lihue, Hawaii
Island School seeks a middle school Olelo Hawaii teacher who also supports elementary school Hawaiian Studies and has a commitment to
Hawaiian Culture-based Education (HCBE) as well as
independent school education in a college preparatory environment. The full-time position for the 24-25 school year includes teaching the equivalent of four-five classes depending on level assigned. Pay range for a full-time faculty member role for 24-25 depending on years of experience and education: $51,500-$72,500.
Island School is a WASC/HAIS accredited PK-12 independent day school with a total enrollment of just over 500 students. The school is located on the rural island of Kaua`i, the northwestern most inhabited island in the Hawaiian archipelago, which, due to its stunning natural beauty, is known as the "Garden Island."

The successful candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, and a desire to be part of an independent school community. Candidates should have experience differentiating instruction to work effectively with a range of learners, demonstrate a passion for teaching Olelo Hawaii, express a readiness to establish Middle School courses, and demonstrate effective classroom management strategies. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in teaching at the elementary, middle and/or high school levels. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor and full participation in the life of the school.
2+ years of relevant teaching experience in an independent school preferred.
Minimum Qualifications include:
B.S. / B.A. degree in Hawaiian Studies, Olelo Hawaii, education, or relevant degree
Hawaiian language fluency
Demonstrated teaching through a Hawaiian Culture-based Education (HCBE) lens
Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in a group
Ability to work effectively with parents, faculty, and staff and to motivate and manage students
Strong work ethic, adaptability, generous spirit, sense of humor, and confidenceworking with students
Commitment to and alignment with the School's mission and vision
