Canadian Tire Bilingual Project Coordinator, Construction in Laval, Quebec

What you’ll do

The position of Project Coordinator reports to the Associate Vice-President. Working within a high energy team, this is a high-profile role responsible to lead, motivate, support, and train a team of external consultants and general contractors in all aspects of design, construction while ensuring the team delivers a high level of customer service to internal and external stakeholders/clients.

The incumbent will be responsible in working with the Project Management Team to ensure that the projects meet metrics associated with project budget, design, schedule, safety, quality, coordination and all due diligence regarding the construction of new stores, expansions, renovations, gas bars and other capital programs.

The position deals with constantly changing priorities, complex approval processes and the intricacies of the design and construction industry at large. Implementation of all individual elements of high-profile building development initiatives, including design, construction, budget control, operational requirements, responsible for ensuring project management framework and promoting project management best practices.

  • Assist in supporting the Real Estate and Development team in the site acquisition, site layout/design, and municipal approval phase of projects.

  • Work with the Project Manager on the design of all aspects of the project, including site layout, building layout, and the construction of same with the needs of internal/external stakeholders, including associate Dealers while ensuring compliance with project metrics and corporate design standards with emphasis on high value and functionality.

  • Managing the planning and scheduling functions which provide for the development of an overall project schedule, the establishment of project milestone dates.

  • Responsible for the hiring of all consultants/engineers required to provide design drawings, working drawings and specifications for the project.

  • Responsible for the procurement of all approvals/permits from the authorities having jurisdiction.

  • Prepare tender package and invite contractors, review and analyze bid submissions with the estimator group, issue letter of award and prepare contracts.

  • Make site visits and retain outside resources when appropriate to manage the project, schedule, budget and quality of workmanship.

  • Formulate and present overview on project status, debrief and update senior management and stakeholders on all aspects of a project.

  • Have the ability to read, interpret, analyze and forecast a project’s cost report and determine the status of the job in terms of schedule and costing.

    What you bring

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is required.

  • Travelling a day per week requires additional time beyond normal working hours.

  • Strong financial skills.

  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Architecture, Engineering or Project Management.

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience of related retail/commercial and gas bar construction experience.

  • Superior interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence,) skills essential.

  • Basic level of design and construction industry knowledge and experience is essential.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation, listening, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Computer proficiency in Project Management software, Microsoft Office, Excel, and project scheduling tools.
