Required:

• BS Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or Computer Science.

Preferred:

• Masters Degree.

Job Title:

Project Engineer - Cab Display Software Design

Key Job Elements:

Develop, maintain, and enhance system and software designs based on eliciting and analyzing high level system requirements. Creation of software requirements for locomotive Cab Display products based on high level requirements and design.

Develop software designs consistent with existing software architecture and fulfilling software requirements. Work with team members on development of new Cab Display products.

Understand how Cab Display products are used within the vehicle and integrate external systems and new or modified functionalities. Able to self-start with problem solving skills.

Work with software engineers to implement system designs, and test engineers to verify software operation.

Validate cab display products on software simulation test stands or in the field on locomotives as required.

Provide support to field service personnel as required to troubleshoot and resolve field problems related to areas of responsibility.

Travel as required to complete implement and validate designs. This travel should not exceed 10% of employee’s time.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

• High analytical aptitude in the area of System Design, System Development, System Integration and System Validation;

• Strong personal skills and the ability to work in groups;

• Experience with embedded software development process & configuration management, including design, architecture and interface definition;

• Experience writing technical documents;

• Experience with CAN, Ethernet, and other communication protocols;

• 5+ years engineering experience.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with Polarion or similar requirements managment tools;

• Experience with displays or user interfaces;

• Exerience working with databases;

• Project management experience;

• Familiarity with EN-50657 or similar requirements and software development processes;

• Knowledge of C ++ programming language.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

• Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment. Frequent/constant sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting or carrying (up to 30 pounds);

• Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment. Depending on assigned project, position may occasionally require motions involved in an industrial working environment, including some kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;

• Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE;

• Emotional Demands – Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards;

• Safety – Position may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to industrial areas.
