Head of Finance, Southeast Asia, Kuala Lumpur

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Reports to: VP-Finance, APAC

Role summary

The primary role of the Head of Finance Southeast Asia (SEA) is to ensure the financial integrity of the business operations in SEA. This is through the ongoing financial management of the multiple subsidiaries that are operating in SEA.

The role is a management position with a small in-house team and responsibility for managing the outputs from a shared service centre (based in KL) which supports the entities in the market.

Key responsibilities

  • Business partner and trusted advisor to Business Leaders and collaborate to assess financial performance, business reviews, forecasting and budgeting requirements.

  • Finance support for commercial deal reviews and structuring

  • Revenue recognition and assurance

  • Coordinate and manage the budget process with other members in the FP&A team

  • Ensure accurate and robust internal control, compliance and reporting

  • Cost management of the market in general and finance function in particular

  • Team and performance management

  • Representing on legal entity board as director wherever required

  • Key member of the local Leadership Team

  • Supporting/ driving key projects within legal entities

  • Any other roles and responsibility as assigned by management from time to time

Group Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Group accounting policies and review of significant accounting judgements.

  • Ensuring compliance with the Group’s minimum internal control framework, and enhancing those controls where necessary

  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, Tax advisors regarding audit and compliance requirements.

Taxation and Statutory

  • Ensure timely preparation of statutory financial accounts and completion of statutory audit,

  • Manage and comply with the local tax filing requirements (Corporate, GST, etc.)

  • Attend to Corporate Secretarial matters as required.

Treasury

  • Manage relationships with local banks and maintain signing and online banking authorities

  • Drive and manage cash collection and manage cash flow forecasting

  • Arrange bank and parent company guarantees through Group Treasury

  • Manage the entities corporate card program

Revenue

  • Review of large and complex contracts in accordance with IFRS15, and working with the Group revenue director on areas of accounting complexity

  • Working closely with the Regional Head of Finance, Finance Business Partner for Sales and other stakeholders to help them understand revenues booked in the local ledger

  • Ensure adequate processes are in place to review the accuracy and completeness of revenue

  • Actively participate in bid management and provide requisite support from finance, tax and compliance perspective

  • Review Accounts receivable and collection

Team management

  • The Head of Finance is the line manager of the entity finance controlling team

  • Responsible for recruiting into team positions

  • Providing training and support to team members

  • Ensuring adequate cover is provided for periods of absence

  • Regular performance reviews

Ideal experience

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance and minimum of 8 to 10 years of related experience and qualified CA or CPA

  • Strong knowledge of financial terms, concepts, and accounting principles

  • Highly organised and accurate, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and manage workflow and priorities to meet deadlines

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with competency in providing finance support to non-financial people

  • Commercial mindset, able to partner with sales to add value to the commercial contracting process.

  • Broader Finance and operations team in APAC and globally.
