Responsibilities
Lead the process design and execution of industrial water and wastewater treatment projects for petroleum, chemical, manufacturing, and food & beverage clients.
Serve in a Subject Matter Expert (SME) role on projects and pursuits, providing technical guidance to design and business development personnel.
Perform day-to-day process technical work, project planning, and management of scope, schedule, and budget of projects.
Develop critical project objectives and goals to define success and measure performance.
Lead discussions with project stakeholders on technical and execution matters.
Leverage technical expertise to assist in identifying new market lanes. clients, and opportunities.
Support client development and technical sales, proposal preparation, and technical presentations.
Coordinate with regulatory agencies as necessary to support projects.
Plan, organize and communicate project technical and staffing needs to department management.
Lead strategic planning efforts for the process engineering team.
Support the development of the goals and business plan for the Industrial Water/Wastewater team.
Identify limitations in staffing and recruit personnel to expand technical knowledge and improve project execution.
Develop, manage, and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external clients.
Support the growth of new client relationships by leveraging existing relationships and professional networks.
Mentor junior staff and lead/participate in training sessions to develop the technical expertise of the Industrial Water/Wastewater team.
Identify emerging treatment technologies and develop expertise to better serve our clients.
Promote and exemplify thought-leadership within the industrial water/wastewater space via presentations at conferences, written publications, and other means.
Provide support for EPC delivery of water and wastewater projects alongside the Burns & McDonnell Construction/Design-Build group.
Other duties as necessary for the success and growth of the Industrial Water/Wastewater group
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemical or environmental engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
Or Bachelor of Science in Chemical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering a plus.
13 years of process engineering experience. Familiarity with a variety of project execution styles and delivery methods, including EPC preferred.
15 years of hands-on experience in designing chemical, physical, and/or biological wastewater treatment systems; evaluating and selecting treatment technologies; working with equipment vendors; and leading the design of industrial water and/or wastewater treatment facilities preferred.
Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
A strong track record of water/wastewater treatment design projects within industrial markets is preferred.
Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of process design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Extensive knowledge of water environment issues and wastewater characteristics in petroleum, chemical, manufacturing, and food & beverage applications preferred.
Expert computer skills including process simulation software (i.e. Hysys and/or Aspen, HTRI) is preferred.
Understand Front End Planning phases and the associated project deliverables preferred.
Knowledge of emerging contaminants and corresponding treatment technologies is preferred.
Abilities to apply in-depth and diversified knowledge of water and wastewater treatment principles and practices to a broad area of assignments preferred.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with project teams and clients as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
Demonstrated critical thinking skills, the ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications. Demonstrate technical leadership in the relevant market sectors, professional organizations, and publications.
Ability to travel.
