Position Specific Description

This management position is within the corporate Environmental Services Department of NextEra Energy (NEE).

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing environmental due diligence, policy support, and licensing and permitting for transmission greenfield development throughout the Central US (including the mid-west, central plains and portions of the desert southwest) for all principal subsidiaries and affiliates of NextEra Energy.

The applicant must have the ability to lead a team of environmental professionals in support of proposed facilities that span diverse technologies within the electric infrastructure industry. The focus is primarily electric transmission and substations. Applicant must have ability to support multiple programs with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues. The applicant will advise multidisciplinary teams on environmental site constraints and permitting strategies to facilitate development of transmission infrastructure.

Primary responsibilities include managing a team of Environmental Specialist/Project Managers, who are working closely with transmission development teams to evaluate potential projects, identifying permitting requirements and risks, developing project schedules and budgets, as well as completing federal, state, and local environmental permitting for transmission projects. A well-rounded understanding of associated environmental regulations such as the National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act and the National Historic Preservation Act are also important for this role.

The applicant must maintain current knowledge of pertinent national, state and local environmental policies and regulations, have the ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers, regulators, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to lead resolution of complex environmental matters. The manager must help ensure NEE compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies.

The applicant must have ability to work extended hours and be available for on-call support. Occasional travel, with overnight stays, will be required. The applicant may choose to work at the NextEra headquarter location in Juno Beach FL, but alternate locations may be considered/negotiated.

Primary Responsibilities Include: (List is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary)

• Manage a team of professionals responsible for providing due diligence and permitting services to diverse business units within the electric infrastructure teams to ensure positive regulatory outcomes, including ability to maintain compliance with environmental authorizations, permits, rules, and regulations

• Act as primary interface with customers from development, operational and construction business units across the company

• Provide leadership to develop strategy and help solve complex environmental matters through expertise and knowledge of environmental laws and regulations

• Communicate deficiencies, risks, and corrective actions to management and stakeholders

• Oversight on project planning, budget, and schedule management

• Providing strategic direction to teams in negotiations with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies

• Manage personnel activities such as staffing, budgets, performance goal setting and evaluations, and mentoring
