Position Summary

The Data Scientist will support the Maritime Optimization leads to identify, develop or acquire advanced analytic technologies and apply methods (modeling, optimization, automation, artificial intelligence) to a wide range of maritime logistical challenges. Responsible for developing solutions for our SaaS platforms that deliver value and therefore drive more demand for such solutions. This role will focus on connecting business needs with advanced technology to create implementable solutions that drive business value. Requires business acumen, technical competence, and excellent relationships – delivering on organizational goals while creating technical solutions with recognized value delivery to Oceaneering. This is a key role for helping accelerate the use and value capture of digital technologies at Oceaneering.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Analyze client proprietary and public domain datasets leveraging advanced analytics and statistics to work on scheduling and routing, and voyage optimization.

  • Clean and process a diverse set of data streams.

  • Identify and understand business needs and contextualize results of the analysis to drive impact for the organization as a whole.

  • Dynamically collaborate with operations and product teams to refine project goals, scope, and timelines.

  • Provide consulting services on both internal and external analytic questions.



  • Masters in Computer Science/Engineering, Data Science, Statistics or Mathematics, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Minimum 8 years of related experience.

  • Strong hands-on skills in large volumes of data sourcing, manipulating and analyzing.

  • Experience with cloud based services (Azure,AWS,GCP).

  • Experience with projects involving Data Cleaning, Data Analysis, Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning.

  • Expertise programming the R, Python, Scala languages.

  • Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases.

  • Experience working with unstructured data.

  • Strong experience in at least 5 of the following (more preferred):

  • Cluster Analysis

  • Multivariate Statistics

  • Markov Models

  • Stochastic models

  • Bayesian Models

  • Deep Learning

  • PhD in Computer Science/Engineering, Data Science, Statistics or Mathematics.

  • Experience with Apache Spark, Kafka, Graph DB.

  • GIS experience.

  • Maritime knowledge.
