Reference #: 4356907 THE POSITION The Pennsylvania Game Commission is seeking a Surveyor 1 to work in the Northwest Region of the Commonwealth, providing specialized and professional land surveying services.  This position is responsible for leading survey field crews and supervising land research survey technicians and other employees in the performance of activities associated with professional land surveying which may include: boundary retracement, subdivision and land development, right-of-way, alignment and visibility of boundaries, and other features used by the Pennsylvania Game Commission, as required for the location, definition, maintenance, and expansion of the State Game Land system.  If you have the necessary skills and would enjoy working throughout various areas of Pennsylvania, apply with us today!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Surveyor 1, you will review and analyze requests for professional land surveying services in support of and originating from the Real Estate Division.  Perform research of land records at county offices (Recorder of Deeds, Register of Wills, Tax Assessment, Prothonotary) and municipal and state offices (meeting minutes and Land Office warrant and patent information) to clarify any title description or right-of-way issue.

You will plan survey operations, giving safety considerations first priority.  Such considerations may include the optimum time of day (or season) to accomplish a particular assignment, requesting more experienced personnel for potentially hazardous jobs, and identifying and requesting special work zone support or protection.  You must communicate any recent accidents, the cause, and appropriate corrective action to the supervisor.  You will be responsible for assuring the survey crew has the proper tools, equipment, and training necessary to perform daily survey work under safe conditions.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 40-hour work week. This position is home-headquartered but will cover the Northwest Region of Pennsylvania. This position requires extensive travel.

Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year as a Surveyor Technician Supervisor; or

Five years of responsible surveying work, including one year as a chief of party of a wide variety of surveying assignments; and graduation from high school.  An Associate Degree in surveying or engineering technology may be substituted for one year of non-specialized experience; or

Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Necessary Special Requirement:

You must possess a registered surveyor's license as issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, or possession of a registered surveyor's license obtained in another public jurisdiction under requirements which are at least equal to those of Pennsylvania.
