Weld County Government Engineering Technician I - Stormwater Inspections in Greeley, Colorado

The Weld County Public Works Division is hiring for a Engineering Technician I (Stormwater Inspector). This position is an entry level Stormwater Inspector. Technical adequacy of work is reviewed upon completion. Non-routine work may be reviewed in process by supervisor.

$27.36 - $34.66 per hour plus benefits (see benefits tab on the job posting). The starting pay is $27.36 per hour.

This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The following job duties are established to outline the basic duties and responsibilities of the above captioned position. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Field Work (25%) - Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with water quality regulations. Sites may include roadway construction projects, gravel pits, development on private lands, potential illicit discharges and stormwater features. - Coordinate with multiple Public Works divisions, project contractors and the public (private landowners and developers) to ensure compliance with state regulations and construction specifications. - Communicate with project staff and present solutions to issues arising in the field. - Install, maintain and repair erosion control measures when found inadequate or damaged. On-call contractors will do the majority of this work, but immediate fixes may be required. - Read construction site plans and verify field conditions. - Develop and implement Stormwater Management Plans (SWMPs) for County construction projects. - Maintain daily inspection logs, prepare reports and keep organized files. - Map field data. Experience with Trimble GPS units and ArcGIS is preferred. - Conduct water sampling at gravel pits. - Communicate efficiently and concisely utilizing verbal communication and written communication, including writing reports and business correspondence.

Administrative (60%) - Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications. - Strong computer skills requiring data entry, speed, accuracy and attention to detail. - Digital mapping of stormwater systems and erosion control measures via ArcGIS. - Read, analyze, and interpret construction site plans, construction specifications, erosion control plans and regulatory permit language. - Maintain and follow a personal calendar for inspection frequency requirements specific to state regulations and/or project specifications. Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, and the public.

Effectively present information including field logs, inspection reports, and construction documents supervisors, management, staff, the public, contractors and/or elected officials.
