Job Summary:

Serves as a primary source of expertise, management, and training in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) in matters relating to grant proposal development and related professional and career development initiatives for GSBS trainees (graduate students and postdocs). Specifically, this position provides grant proposal development expertise to GSBS trainees and faculty members in support of fellowships, training grants, professional development, writing studios, and other extramural funding opportunities.

Job Duties:

  • Provides strategic, proactive, catalytic and capacity-building proposal writing expertise to GSBS affiliates including faculty members, researchers, and trainees.

  • Initiates and nurtures critical partnerships and alliances throughout the institution’s research enterprise, with institutional partners and other external stakeholders to increase institutional research competitiveness.

  • Provides analytical, technical and professional support in all aspects of grant development including identification of grant opportunities (for pre- and post-doctoral trainees and faculty), writing research proposals, budget development, and overall grantsmanship guidance.

  • Identifies and maintains research alliances with potential collaborative partners and funding agencies to formulate and implement specific research projects.

  • Provides workshops on research funding agency requirements, interests and trends.

  • Monitors funding agency changes and priorities and identifies funding opportunities suited for faculty member(s) based upon their research expertise.

  • Acts as a liaison between the department, university administrative departments, the faculty, and funding agencies for activities related to proposal development and submission.

  • Serves as proposal development expert to GSBS researchers, staff, and trainees.

  • Develops and hosts writing studios for GSBS faculty and trainees.

  • Identifies and develops metrics to measure the unit’s performance and processes.

  • Collaborates with GSBS leadership to develop and offer regular professional and career development opportunities for GSBS faculty and trainees.

  • Partners with GSBS Assistant Director for Digital & Automation Systems to maintain current trainee data tables to support training grant submissions.

  • Manages departmental webpages, including up-to-date linked resources, for the GSBS Writing Studio and GSBS News & Events. Contributes content for GSBS social media accounts, with particular focus on funding opportunities and career and professional development.

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience.
