About you and this role

You are a self-starter who can identify, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks. You will serve as a vital resource for R&D by applying technical skills to optimize pilot plant operations, resolve plant problems, and ensure safe and proficient operation of the pilot plants to deliver samples and process data to support new catalyst and process technology development and manufacturing scale-up. In this role, you will need conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures as well as having general business knowledge developed through education or prior experience related to your discipline and functional area.

This role involves run plant activities that include overseeing the day-to-day operation of Dow’s pilot plant facilities to safely execute the requested experiments. You will work directly with experts from other R&D groups as well as senior pilot plant operations staff. The role addresses problems of technical complexity, engages with multifunctional teams on identifying challenges, proposes innovative solutions accordingly, and develops Dow proprietary state-of-art technologies with significant business impact to the company.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operation of the assigned pilot or mini-plant unit, providing input and support for operating technicians. Partners with experts to perform plant/product troubleshooting.

  • Conducts daily reviews of process data, alarms, activity log and maintains a strong field presence to better understand plant operation and stay engaged with daily activities. Maintains and reviews daily Key Process Indicators (KPI)/ trends to ensure optimum performance

  • Prepares for and leads pilot plant trials for the assigned unit with teams of R&D campaign stakeholders including preliminary reviews, data interpretation, and final reporting. Accomplishes this by working with department scientists and senior engineers (Subject Matter Experts – SME’s) in their respective fields.

  • Applies the Scientific Method in the planning and execution of experimental plans and problem solving. Formulates hypotheses and develops experimental plans to test hypotheses. Learns the appropriate use of continuous improvement principles to solve complex problems.

  • Responds urgently to plant issues and emergencies. Acts as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drives implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.

  • Designs and installs plant process modifications to enable targeted research programs to be completed successfully.

  • Improves asset reliability by identifying opportunities and implementing solutions to process/equipment reliability challenges. Leads improvement projects and consults on process control code.

  • This position supports Dow’s Packaging, Specialty Plastics & Hydrocarbons Research and Development Programs and is located at the Freeport, TX site.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

  • Masters degree or additional relevant work experience a plus.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
