Control Systems Engineer- Freeport, TX

This position assigned has responsibilities for support of the control systems (DCS, PLC, SIS, etc.). The main responsibility is to deliver and maintain control systems that meet production’s requirements, perform as necessary to achieve functionality and safety obligations, and maximize system capability. This includes the leadership of the system migration and lifecycle process, maintenance recommendation and oversight of installed base equipment, co-ordination of concepts with production technologist (automation).

Formula for Success: You Will…

Manages all control systems in a specific area and is responsible for oversight of control system critical spare parts.

Responsible for lifecycle status and develop diagnosis concept and periodic health check of installed base control systems.

Develop and maintain long-term control system migration plans for their assigned plant with the Production Technologist, Specialists and Technicians.

Act as SIS Responsible Engineer including maintaining all required documentation for SIS system and provides expert support for the control systems in a specific area.

Perform advanced control and graphic configuration on systems that is beyond the capabilities of the technicians and specialists.

Lead and/or coordinate root cause failure analysis on significant failures. Implement Corrective Actions for control system issues and develop, implement, document and maintain manuals for every system in the production areas.

Maintains the master plan on assigned areas control systems (DCS, PLC and SIS). Ensures all systems are following corporate standards.

Development and improvement of DCS/SIS systems, including batch control and recipe automation.

Supports Capital projects in area requiring interface to control systems.

Ensure appropriate preventive maintenance is completed on all control systems in assigned area; Ensure development and maintenance of SAP functional locations, bills of materials and preventive maintenance.

Ensure mechanical integrity programs are in place and implemented, including inspection/testing and preventive/predictive maintenance programs (DCS interlocks, alarm management, safety instrumented systems)

Ensure automation roadmap (spare parts, service agreements, obsolescence, etc.) and automation security programs (DCS, SIS, remote access, etc.) are in place.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

Education

  • BS Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Computer Engineering,

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of operations experience in a chemical/petrochemical or other similar manufacturing environment.

  • Preferred batch plant experience

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong knowledge of process control theory. Working knowledge of industry standards; e.g., ISA and IEC.

  • Working knowledge of Honeywell Experion Distributed control system.

  • Strong understanding of Process Engineering concepts and their applications.

  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, TCEQ and other applicable code and regulations and standards.

  • Practical experience in plant troubleshooting.

  • Practical experience in process control, field equipment and DCS/PLC Control Systems.

  • Must have good communication skills and ability to work in a matrix organization.

  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills and ability to lead teams.
