Description

Internally known as a Trades Worker, this is highly skilled and advanced technical level trades work performing complex repairs and maintenance of wastewater system components including but not limited to the following: gravity sewer piping, sewer force, mains, manholes, valves, pumping stations and electrical control panels. Employees demonstrate a high level of skill in a specific trade and may serve as crew leaders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position includes the ability to troubleshoot electrical panels including multimeters, amp probes, and megohm meters.

  • Responsible for the setup and operating of mobile pumping equipment, generators, vac trucks, pumper trucks, and small equipment, troubleshooting and analyzing sewer pump station malfunctions.

  • Maintain and repair sewer valves, sewer pumps, and sewer piping, maintain sewer pump station sites including mowing, weed eating, painting, and landscaping.

Education, Experience, Licensing

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and six months of work experience in public utilities, such as water, sewer, natural gas, irrigation, plumbing, electrical, or telecommunication installation or closely related experience.

  • Possession of a valid Class E driver's license with an acceptable driving record and possession of a valid Florida Class A Commercial Learners Permit with Tanker endorsement is required prior to receiving an offer of employment.

  • Must obtain a Florida Class A Commercial Drivers License with Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire or employment will end.

  • The Utilities Department will assist with obtaining the Class A CDL license with a Tanker endorsement upon hire by providing the equipment and training required. The Utilities Department will cover all fees and costs associated with obtaining a commercial driver’s license.

  • This position is a Safety-Sensitive position subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49 CFR-Parts 40 and/or 382.

Supplemental Information

  • Will be required to work from blueprints and sketches, demonstrate skill in operating small machinery and/or hand tools used in the specific job, and communicate effectively with managers, other team members, and the public.

  • Ability to lift a 60lbs. and be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, reach, stoop, squat, and work in small spaces in extreme temperatures and ability to work and make decisions independently and without supervision.

  • The workdays and hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, plus emergency on-call rotation which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
