Position Overview Performs a variety of technical tasks associated with transportation planning and traffic engineering.  Duties and responsibilities include collecting and analyzing field data; enhancing, compiling, reporting, and maintaining information related to traffic characteristics; accident analysis; asset management; and road inventories used for the ongoing operational monitoring of the County roadway network to identify and to correct deficiencies. Provides information used in the development of the six-year transportation improvement program and the long-range arterial improvement plan. Work assignments are received with general direction with the expectation that the employee exercises initiative and judgment to independently carry out assignments according to established standards and policies. Work is reviewed periodically for timely completion of assigned tasks and is evaluated through discussions, reports, and results obtained.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Required Education and Experience

• Associates degree in engineering or related field AND two years of experience in related field such as traffic engineering, drafting, GIS, data collection OR
• Four years of experience in related field such as traffic engineering, drafting, GIS, data collection 
• Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the work.

Preferred Education, Experience or Other Qualifications

• Experience with traffic data counting software 
• Experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Microsoft Office products (Access, Excel, and Word) 
• Experience in compiling and maintaining road and traffic information systems. 

The annual salary for this position ranges from $58,531.20 - $82,742.40. This position offers medical, dental, vision, life insurance, a pension retirement, and other voluntary benefits.
