Southern Company Controls Design Engineering Manager in Durham, North Carolina

PowerSecure is searching for a Controls Design Engineering Manager. The Controls Design Engineering Manager are to be responsible for the health and welfare of the Controls Design Engineering team as well as management and adherence of the templates and standardization of Controls Designs for our Microgrid Products (Switchgear, Power Equipment Centers, and Generators) manufactured at our RTP and Randleman, NC facilities.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering/Design related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in related engineering or design role.

  • 5+ years of engineering experience managing small to large teams.

  • Advanced degree or Professional Engineering license, preferred.

  • Familiar with 2-D and 3-D CAD software, preferably AutoDesk Products.

  • Familiar with PDM software and CAD-driven BOM structures, preferably AutoDesk Vault.

  • Breadth of engineering knowledge to understand good design practices, principles, and engineering effort.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the group engineering workload as well as competing priorities to ensure on-time delivery of the team (deliverables, and general engineering support)

  • Provide direct technical engineering support as needed to fill gaps due to bandwidth or product knowledge.

  • Identify technical gaps and develop templates and procedures to help mitigate.

  • Enforce accountability of adherence Engineering Design Standards as they pertain to all Engineering disciplines and ensure these standards/procedures are compliant with corporate regulations.

  • Develop and Enforce KPIs based on the behaviors that are desired to be enforced/reinforced.

  • Coordinate interdisciplinary efforts with the departmental managers (mechanical, manufacturing and systems engineering)

  • Coordinate and prioritize efforts and requests from other business units including Production, Assembly, Procurement, Inventory, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Development, Field Service, and Commissioning.

  • Assist with departmental and project related budgeting and strategic resource/business planning.

  • Collaborate with leadership to develop short- and long-term continuous improvement milestones. Track and manage these efforts on an ongoing basis.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Occasionally assist in moving materials and equipment that weigh 40lbs.

  • Primarily office environment with the exceptions of manufacturing shop visits.
