Amarillo College Assistant Director - Academic Services - Moore County in Dumas, Texas

This is an exciting time to work at Amarillo College! We are seeking our next full-time Assistant Director of Academic Services at the Moore County Campus who will be all-in on our mission and who will assist the Dean of Operations in the academic operations and general administration of the Moore County Campus.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in education, higher education administration, counseling, or a related field.

Preferred: Master’s Degree in education, higher education administration, counseling, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Required: Three (3) years of experience in instruction, counseling, student services, library, enrollment management or other student support services; or, three (3) years of successful management experience in educational administration.

Preferred: Previous experience in community college administration and teaching or other educational experience working directly with students.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily operations of the campus.

  • Manage the recruitment, training, and professional growth of team members.

  • Supervise classified staff, student workers and faculty as assigned.

  • Supervise the Student Support Services TRIO grant Coordinator (Project Director) and grant budget ensuring that performance measures are attained.

  • Supervise the campus advising and retention services including Success Coaching.

  • Advise and register students for classes.

  • Supervise academic services including the Learning Resource Center, Library, Testing and Tutoring. Supervise the Customer Service Center Staff and student workers.

  • Develop and maintain scheduling of academic courses and schedule classrooms for classes and training.

  • Develop Strategic Plan and execute initiatives with input from the AC-MCC Advisory Committee.

  • Supervise the Student Activities budget development and expenditures and the campus club activities. Oversee the Student Activity Center.

  • Coordinate student services activities including new student orientation, career exploration seminars, outreach and recruiting events.

  • Sponsor or co-sponsor the Student Government Association (SGA) and Mentoring program.

  • Direct student services activities including New Student Orientation, career exploration seminars, outreach and recruiting events.

  • Complete various reports, documentation and evaluations and performance assessments including the annual Non-Instructional Assessment plan and results.

  • Coordinate QUEST scholarship and student activities with Dumas ISD and Dumas Education Foundation as well as the JBS Better Futures scholarship program with JBS USA.

  • Promote dual and concurrent enrollment with the regional secondary schools.

  • Assist students with financial aid questions and filing of the FAFSA and coordinates scholarship activities.

  • Assist with the Continuing Education and Workforce Development program.

  • Collaborate on the development of the campus budget.

  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to the SSS Grant Project Director,

  • Build level oversight of campus and campus activities under the direction of the Dean of Operations-MCC.

  • Serve as the Project Manager of specialized administrative projects assigned by the Dean of Operations-MCC as needed for the growth and development of the campus including grant writing, new campus services, and community events.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain various state and federal reports, and annual assessment reports.

  • Ability to work with continual interruptions which necessitates being flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, assignments, and other interruptions which may impact pre-established timelines for completing assignments.

  • Strong attention to detail skills.

  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Maintain a commitment to discretion and confidentiality concerning sensitive information.

  • Understanding of academic policies and procedures within a community college setting.

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Understanding of academic policies and procedures within a community college setting.

  • Ability to provide academic advising and support services to students.

  • Ability to mentor and train staff members in academic services.

  • Ability to implement and evaluate programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing student success.

  • Ability to adapt to evolving technology and incorporate it into academic services.

  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and administrators to support academic goals and objectives.

  • Skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Access, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) and Colleague.

  • Knowledge of Zoom, Google Meets, Google Teams and virtual environment platforms.

  • Ability to learn Business Objects and Watermark platforms.

  • Knowledge of budget management.

  • Ability to promote dual and concurrent enrollment with the area secondary schools.

  • Task prioritization and organizational skills.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices, buildings, campuses and other various locations in the performance of assigned duties. Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and or/maneuver office supplies and presentation materials as needed.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays and varying events as necessary or scheduled).

Work Environment: This position works in a professional office setting in addition to various locations according to the needs of committees, meetings, community involvement, and collaborative initiatives. Self-sufficiency is critical.

Salary: Amarillo College Staff Salary Schedule (https://www.actx.edu/hr/salary-schedules) grade 14. Placement within the pay grade dependent upon candidate’s education, experience, credentials and skills.
