SR. CHIEF ENGINEER - MECHANICAL

Job Description : McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing, Inc., Dodge Center, MN, is seeking a Sr. Chief Engineer – Mechanical. This position leads and manages the Engineering team. Responsible for driving continuous improvement efforts across different engineering disciplines. Responsible for making critical decisions that have a large impact on projects and engineering initiatives. Develops and fosters Engineers to think innovatively, hold accountability, and process improvement on a daily basis. Provides advanced, technical leadership within the engineering department/platform. Leads collaborative research of new technology and processes associated with vehicle electronics and control systems and apply strategically to vehicles. This role will also direct high level and complex engineering analysis and design of new and modified components and subsystems in accordance with engineering standards and project scope to ensure that designs meet customer requirements, corporate objectives, are safe, and can be manufactured. Responsibilities include: Establish the overall strategy and objectives for a segment Engineering team. Develop the technical engineering strategy to support the larger business strategy. Identify technical trends, secure funding and resources to enable future growth/business growth. Promote and champion a people first culture throughout the engineering organization. Responsible for owning succession planning for the segment engineering team including top talent gap identification and creation of individual development plans. Ownership for segment engineering budget, P&L responsibility, and market share. Collaboration with functional and segment leaders to ensure that engineering strategy & goals are aligned with the organizations vision. Responsibility for top-down communications – cascading information to engineering group to ensure alignment with overall vision/strategy/goals. Present to Oshkosh leadership and external customers. Conduct the research the necessary to be an advocate for new technologies/ products that will enable the business. Identify and provide potential innovative solutions to complex issues. Act as a key influencer in technical decisions regarding new technology. Lead in the establishment of the technical base line and technical engineering vision. Help lead the transformation of the organization into modern approaches to development, integration, and test. Interface with customers/ suppliers to resolve complex technical issues to provide the business with innovative, industry leading solution. Provide technical mentorship to all levels of the engineering organization. Supplies technical inspiration and leadership consultation to other engineers. Act as a technical advisor to Engineering leaders. Direct and communicate high level engineering analysis of customer requirements, including design of new and modified systems, ensuring current products remain competitive as well as supporting new products. Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues. Participate in / lead the budgeting process for the cost center to include recommending capital improvements and preparing justification data as required. Conduct the research necessary to be an advocate for new technologies/products that will enable the business. Identify and provide potential innovative solutions to complex issues. Domestic travel required up to 10% of time.

Qualifications : Requires bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field. Requires 10 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience, which must include: 10 years of Refuse Heavy Duty commercial vehicle experience at body equipment manufacturer; 10 years of experience in Refuse Product Design, Development & Project management; 10 years of experience in executing various Engineering projects like cost reduction, weight reduction, competitor benchmarking & structural/hydraulic/controls systems for the design of Refuse collection vehicles; 8 years of management/leadership experience with onsite & offshore engineering staff; including resource planning, scheduling, and administration to ensure Engineering programs successful execution; 8 years of experience in leading Sustaining & NPD Engineering Design team; Implement Product Design changes through Engineering Change management (ECN/ECR) process in Smarteam; 10 years of experience with Engineering CAD software e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD or Creo; 10 years of experience in JD Edwards Enterprise One software to evaluate various product option content on Refuse truck orders; 8 years of experience directly evaluating and communicating high level engineering analysis of customer requirements; including design of new/modified systems to ensure current products remain a market leader through continues improvements; 8 years of leadership experience leading and completing projects in a highly variable manufacturing environment; 2 years of experience with implementing corporate processes, generating templates, IT tools, and leading transformation of existing large engineering CAD database into Master models of each product; 2 years of experience in Axle weight calculations for Refuse trucks.

Salary: $135,013 to $202,400/year
