Gensler Technical Designer in Detroit, Michigan

Technical Designer(s) (full-time, multiple openings) needed in Detroit, MI to conceptualize building projects and move them forward through construction documentation into construction administration and eventually construction completion. Participate in all project phases, including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents and production for large-scale commercial and mixed-use core and shell architecture projects. Formulate design presentation strategies and present design concepts to clients and discuss the need for modifications / address modification requests to achieve desired project goals. Collaborate with design team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies, and other vendors to resolve complex technical and design issues to meet overall project objectives. Under the supervision of a licensed Architect, establish design standards, space planning, and programming based on clients' functional and spatial requirements while meeting conceptual design goals. Ensure builder compliance with design specifications, and advise on design corrections, under an Architect's supervision.

 

Must have a Bachelor's Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field, plus two (2) years of design experience with all of the following:

 

(1) Translating an architect's sketches and documents into realized 2D/3D models and images

using 2D/3D software, such as AutoCAD, Revit, Rhinoceros, V-Ray, Enscape, Lumion, and Grasshopper;

(2) Preparing conceptual design and graphic presentation utilizing Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and SketchUp;

(3) Delivering concept and schematic design package, which includes site analysis, design concept, design narrative, sustainability simulation tests, floor plans, sections, elevations and photo-realistic renderings;

(4) Preparing full scope design packages and drawing sets in Revit for global company headquarters, office, building revitalization, retail centers and mixed-use development projects; 

(5) Utilizing knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and building codes;

(6) Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and parametric design software;

(7) Façade development (product and material specification), structural form, core layout, and entrance and circulation strategy for retail centers and office buildings; AND

(8) Performing environmental analysis to understand the daylighting and lighting required for the office space planning and the embodied and operational carbon footprint.

All experience may be acquired concurrently. Incidental telecommuting may apply.
