This is a trainee role where you will be required to complete further education to a minimum of a HNC in electrical and mechanical engineering. The role leads you to becoming multi-skilled electrical and mechanical technician. During the training, you will be working as part of a team within the major repair and electrical repair team.

Your primary responsibilities will include but not limited to fitting and reworking, while testing parts and products. Additionally diagnosing electrical issues following Caterpillar's acceptance standards.

2 Year fixed term contract to complete the HNC.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Work towards your HNC qualification and further learning as required by the company either day or block release.

  • Fitment/rework and test of non conformancies raised during the assembly process.

  • Follow documented dynamic risk assessments to perform safe and defect free assembly of parts and components, using various hand/power tools and lifting equipment provided in the work area.

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults with machines, within the repair areas and on the line when required.

  • Read schematic drawings.

  • Adhere to Caterpillar best working practices and Quality Acceptance Standards.

  • Follow and utilise Caterpillar Lean principles of continuous improvement reporting, waste elimination and standard work.

  • Participate in product / process improvement dialogues as required.

  • Keep the work area clean, tidy and safe in line with 5S and total preventative maintenance (TPM).

  • Adhere to the company's Health & Safety policy and safe working practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs graded 9-4 / A* - C. Level 3 in Engineering & Maths level 3 or, equivalent qualifications will be considered.

  • Demonstrate a level of mechanical aptitude and accuracy.

  • Have a fully flexible approach to the job role & responsibilities (willing to work overtime).

  • The ability to read, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions/procedures.

  • The ability to use hand/power tools and lifting equipment.

  • High level of attention to detail.

  • Able to work on your own initiative and be self-motivated.

  • You will possess effective communication skills to liaise with various levels of the organisation.

  • Good problem-solving skills.

  • Must be willing to work a multi-shift pattern.
