About the role

The Design Collective is on the search for a Mechanical Engineering Design Director for our Dallas, TX Design Studio. The role involves leading design efforts, planning and organizing major functional areas. The successful candidate will perform mechanical designs, monitor staffing levels, manage human resources deployment, and lead internal business development activities. They will be responsible for generating scopes of work and corresponding fees. The Design Director will also guide staff in areas of staffing, training, coaching, performance appraisals, and retention strategies. What you’ll do

  • Guide and coordinate the assigned projects through completion; attains goals and objectives established; delivers high quality services at an optimum level of profit; and develops and retains a strong staff.

  • Develop short and long-range plans for the team in concert with approved Regional and Corporate plans, initiating actions and controls to meet established goals and budgets.

  • Direct and participates in proposal preparation and presentations to prospective clients.

  • Assign project teams, establishes communication with other groups, and verifies project management process based on the client's requirements.

  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret business documents.

  • Respond to the most critical issues. Ability to write reports, manuals, speeches and articles using distinctive style.

  • Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on topics to employees, clients, top management and/or public groups. Ability to engage with key employees, top management, and client groups to take desired action.

  • Require knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and/or commissions. Conducts basic financial analysis.

  • Require authority level analytical and quantitative skills in developing strategic solutions for a growing matrix-based multi-industry sales environment. Draws upon the analysis of others and makes recommendations of significance to the operation.

  • As needed, acts in capacity of Senior Engineer.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering and 8 years or more of confirmed experience.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required
