Position Description Summary :

APT Research is hiring a Mid-level Pressure Vessel Systems Engineer 3 to support the NASA KSC S&MA Pressure Systems Manager in Institutional Safety on the KSC Safety and Mission Assurance Support Services (SMASS IV) contract at Kennedy Space Center, FL. This person will provide engineering expertise for KSC NASA Institutional Safety division.

Responsibilities: Specific tasks may include but are not limited to:

· Provide Pressure Vessels and Pressurized Systems (PVS) consulting services to NASA KSC S&MA Pressure Systems Manager (PSM) based on the contractor's subject matter expertise gathered while performing analogous project work.

· Conduct reviews of ongoing PVS certification and recertification packages, exclusion documentation and their associated acceptance data packages for approx. 15 systems per week. Participate in meetings as required by the PSM.

· Provide recommendations for improvements, corrections, and other issues with regard to compliance with NASA-STD-8719.17, NASA Standard for Ground-Based Pressure Vessels and Pressurized Systems.

· Participate in several weekly PVS Design Reviews and facility modification planning to ensure compliance with requirements of NASA, OSHA, ASME, National Board, and other consensus standards organizations.

· Review In-Service-Inspection Program requirements for all KSC PVS.

· Review design and procurement specifications for compliance with NASA-STD-8719.17 and industry standards.

· Conduct walk-downs of active PVS and make recommendations to PSM to address real-time issues as they arise.

Required Experience/Education:

· Education: BS Engineering or Technical degree (mechanical/ aerospace or materials engineering) . Master's degrees cannot substitute for years of experience.

· Experience: Minimum of 6 years of experience with Pressure vessels and Pressurized systems

Security Clearance Requirement:

· Must be able to qualify for an unescorted badge (US Citizen required) and be able to pass a background investigation and drug test.

Preferred Experience/ skills:

· Specific engineering experience with Pressure Vessels and Pressurized Systems

· In depth knowledge of any of the following concepts (actual experience is a plus):

o Fracture Mechanics

o Quantitative Hazard Analysis

o Systems Safety Engineering

o Non-Destructive Examination Techniques (e.g., UTT - Ultrasonic Thickness Testing, PT - Penetrant Testing, AE- Acoustic Emission, UE- Ultrasonic Examination, RT - Radiographic Testing, MT- Magnetic particle Testing, EC- Eddy Current, etc.)

o NASA-STD-8719.17 Rev A NASA Requirements for Ground-Based Pressure Vessels

o and Pressurized Systems

o KNPR 8715.3 Rev I-1 KSC Safety Practices Procedural Requirements

o 29 CFR 1910 Subpart H, Hazardous Materials

o 49 CFR 170-180 Subtitle B, Chapter I, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety

o Administration, Department of Transportation

Essential Job Functions:

Work Environment :

· Office environment; Flight hardware processing, facility systems and Ground support Testing Facilities

· Flexible schedule with hybrid onsite and remote schedule. Shift and/or weekend work occasionally required,

· Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written

· Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers

Travel Requirements :

· Requires ability to travel domestically (within the U.S.) <10%

Physical Requirements :

· Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk

· Ability to climb stairs

· Ability to lift >15 lbs.

Other Essential Functions:

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgement
