Description The Recycling Plant Manager is responsible to oversee the daily operations of personnel; this includes safety, system adjustments, production, staffing assignments, quality of goods, training and the operation of small and heavy equipment as needed. This position may be exposed to unpleasant odors and sights and weather elements. The hours and physical demand may vary by location. Responsibilities of Position: Monitor all safety and compliance standards and ensure all are met or exceeded. Manage the daily activities and performance of assigned personnel/departments. Follows and maintain an operational business plan to include all program requirements, labor hours, cycle production costs, and images at the direction of the Region Recycling Manager. Ensure that production, quality, and compliance standards are being met. Conduct quality control inspections, and track issue(s) and resolution to ensure all work is completed properly to meet safety, quality, and production goals. Ensure proper PPE is utilized by employees, as well as compliance with Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures is adhered to consistently. Provide hands-on supervision of the assigned personnel/area. Train and direct employees to improve their overall performance. Conduct safety checks on equipment. Identify problems, troubleshoot equipment, and perform necessary steps to make the correction. Ensure the daily housekeeping plan is followed in assigned areas and that all areas are cleaned effectively. Ensure all operating systems are performing normally and report any problems to the maintenance department and Region Recycling Manager. Coordinate the shipping of glass to the Dayton Glass Plant. Produce production schedules to meet MRF goals. Coordinate shipping of metals to appropriate markets. Operate plant equipment as needed to ensure production needs are met. Hire staff to fill vacant positions in a timely manner, perform and conduct performance evaluations, monitor and track employee attendance, complete disciplinary actions/meetings and all other required documentation relating to performance management. Maintain proper records and files including all compliance and personnel records. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with employees, co-workers, and management. Conduct employee observations to ensure safety and procedures are being followed. Perform duties in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies. Other duties as assigned. Skills & Abilities Needed for Position: General knowledge of plant operation/manufacturing environment. Knowledge of the recycling industry preferred. Ability to obtain certifications to operate heavy equipment, small equipment, and other plant equipment. Must be able to work without supervision and be an independent self-starter. Ability to supervise a diverse workforce including equipment operators, laborers, and their work processes. Multi-tasking individual with the ability to keep several processes efficiently flowing continually. Must possess a basic computer for automated processes, data collection, and office-related programs for performing evaluations, disciplinary actions, and e-mail. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how the plant equipment operates to make appropriate system and component adjustments. Additional Working Conditions/Aspects: Must have a valid DOT Medical Card or able to obtain prior to hire. Must be at least 19 years of age.
