We are looking for a Sr. Electrical Design Engineer to join our Pittsburgh (Cheswick) location.

Your Responsibilities:

Design and analyze complex electro-mechanical components and systems for large Rotating Equipment. Position will be involved with testing and conducting studies on new designs and modified existing designs . Serve as a leader for technical teams, that will provide guidance and expertise in electrical engineering for the design of complex rotating equipment and systems. Lead the investigation , evaluation, and development of new applications for existing equipment .

Your Challenge:

  • Design new equipment and machinery to support program and project needs. This includes overseeing the building, installing, debugging, and testing new equipment to ensure production capabilities.

  • Leads technical teams in design and analytical activities for product design, development, and production .

  • Mentor less experienced engineers and be actively involved in the development of their skills.

  • Determines technical objectives and develops innovative, practical solutions to advance technical engineering problems . While being one of the technical experts for failure investigations, root cause analyses, and design reviews.

  • Develop Direct and Quadrature circuits for electric motors, generators, and exciters . Conduct Direct and Quadrature analysis of motors, generators, and exciters. Perform transient simulation of electric motors, generators, exciters, rectifiers, and controls.

  • Perform high level electrical analysis of transformers, rod position indicators, and other electromagnetic equipment. Interface with and interact with peers performing EM finite element calculations on motors, generators, exciters, transformers , and other electromagnetic devices.

  • Designs and conducts experiments , collects data, and interprets results. Conducts analyses and writes analysis and test reports using engineering expertise. Capable of driving for solutions in the face of ambiguity . Determines theoretical principles involved and applying advanced analytical and investigative methods and techniques.

  • Plans and coordinates the execution of complex engineering solutions including documentation, reporting , publishing, and making technical presentations . Analyzes projects to provide manpower and material estimates required. Prepares schedules for accomplishing tasks within estimates.

What you Bring:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required, Masters preferred. PhD a plus

  • 15+ years’ experience in Electrical Engineering

  • Working knowledge of at least one of the following skillsets: 2D/3D Electro Magnetic Finite Element Analysis (EMFEA), System Modeling (Mathcad, Matlab, Simulink, Flux2D), Acoustics, Thermal Analysis

  • Experience in Direct and Quadrature circuit development and analysis of electric motors, generators, and exciters .

  • Ability to create models and drawings, present design reviews , and perform trade studies and design reviews.

  • Capable of coordinating multiple project responsibilities.

  • Must be a team player, and have strong communication skills and be comfortable using MS Office Suite to disseminate information.

  • Ability to perform analysis and studies with strong attention to details in a fast-paced environment is preferred.

  • Design team leadership experience highly desired.
