Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer defines and maintains design rules, leads R&D; projects, consults and sets direction on new designs required for client projects, supports supplier qualification and new product assessments, supports, coaches and mentors junior engineers.

Duties & Responsibilities

Functions

  • Adopt and maintain a strong, ever-present and overriding culture of safety in all facets of professional activities and actively help manage and promote Oceaneering’s HSE policies and practices.
  • Interface with Clients, both internal and external, to clearly define requirements and provide robust technical solutions and explain the performance and testing results of cables.
  • Evaluate and source electric cable test and manufacturing equipment.
  • Support the global supply chain in assessing and qualifying new suppliers, materials and products.
  • Develop and maintain analysis and design programs for electric cables, and provide documentation to facilitate worldwide use.
  • Be capable of working within a structured new product development environment and have experience of working with structured development methodologies
  • Low Voltage (LV) Cables:
  • Maintain design rules and production and test documents for LV cables;
  • Perform supplier assessments and audits for materials procured for LV cable manufacture;
  • Participate in Supplier assessment and auditing of manufacture/test facilities.
  • Medium Voltage (MV) Cables:
  • Work with Proposals Engineering and Sales to specify MV cable designs for use in bids (this includes cable design and performance documentation);
  • Work with Project Engineering and Project Management to finalise the MV cable designs for use in projects. This includes creation of procurement specifications and performance reports;
  • Work with Suppliers to ensure that the cable designs are fully qualified;
  • Work with sub-contractors and Oceaneering personnel to qualify splicing techniques.
  • Participate in Supplier assessment and auditing of manufacture/test facilities.
  • High Voltage (HV) Cables:
  • Work with Senior Management and Sales to develop strategy for dealing with HV cable applications.
  • Fibre Optic (FO) Cables:
  • Work with Proposals Engineering and Sales to specify FO cable designs for use in bids (this includes cable design and performance documentation);
  • Work with Project Engineering and Project Management to finalise the FO cable designs for use in projects. This includes creation of procurement specifications and performance reports;
  • Participate in Supplier assessment and auditing;
  • Work with Suppliers to ensure that the cable designs are fully qualified;
  • Work with sub-contractors and Oceaneering personnel to qualify splicing techniques.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has NO direct supervisory responsibilities.

Reporting Relationship

  • This person will report to Manager-Analysis Engineering.
  • Cable Development Engineer - Subsea Distribution Solutions, participates in defining the day-to-day work of this person (dotted line)
Qualifications

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • An ElectricalEngineering related degree is required.
  • A strong candidate with a non-degree qualification may be considered for this position, provided they can demonstrate relevant experience in a similar role.
  • +5 years experience working in a similar role. The candidate must be familiar with the theory, performance, design, analysis and testing of electric cables, along with the associated manufacturing techniques used.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Optem (or similar cable design package)
  • Flux2D / Ansys Maxwell Electrical Analysis Tool
  • Familiarity with multiphysics packages such as Comsol for thermal and electrical analysis in cables

Working Conditions

This position is considered OFFICE WORK which is characterized as follows.

  • Almost exclusively indoors during the day and occasionally at night
  • Occasional exposure to airborne dust in the work place
  • Work surface is stable (flat)
