Position Summary

The Software Development Manager will manage a team of developers and the delivery of various projects across multiple technology stacks. The individual will interact directly with customers (both internal and external) to elicit requirements, establish the appropriate processes to implement the required features, delegate tasks, provide direction when needed, and ensure product delivery. At times, the individual may be expected to perform hands-on development activities as well.

Duties & Responsibilities

Functions

ESSENTIAL

  • Manages a team of software developers and other technical resources.

  • Independently manages all projects assigned, including defining scope, establishing processes, tracking implementation, and ensuring timely delivery.

  • Works directly with customers (both internal and external) to elicit requirements.

  • Researches project options and performs analysis for product direction.

  • Provides support, guidance, and mentorship regarding projects to the development team.

  • Performs hands-on development activities when prudent.

  • Evaluates employee performances, sets expectations and goals, disciplines, and trains staff.

  • Reports status of all projects and resource allocation regularly to the Sr. Manager of Software Development.

  • Composes Job Descriptions for technical staff required to complete assigned projects and conducts interviews.

  • Works a schedule that crosses over with the US work day (e.g. noon - 9:30pm IST)

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position will manage a technical team. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Reporting Relationship

  • Reports to the Sr. Manager of Software Development

  • This position will have a dotted-line relationship with the Program Managers for whom they are developing products/services for.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college/university.

  • 5+ years experience managing software development teams

  • 3+ years managing software development projects

  • 5+ years experience developing web/mobile applications

  • 2+ years experience developing web applications on the Microsoft stack (e.g. C#, ASP.NET MVC, .NET Core, Web API, EF, SQL Server, etc.)

  • 1+ year(s) experience with GIS applications (Esri ArcGIS)

DESIRED

  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g. React, Vue, Angular, Svelte)

  • Experience with “traditional” front-end frameworks/libraries (e.g. Bootstrap, jQuery)

  • Experience with Java

  • Experience and knowledge of geospatial data formats and map services (KML, WMS, WFS, WCS, GML) and OGC standards

  • Experience with Agile methodologies

  • Experience performing project management with Jira

Working Conditions

This position is considered OFFICE WORK which is characterized as follows.

  • Almost exclusively indoors during the day and early evening

  • Occasional exposure to airborne dust in the work place

  • Work surface is stable (flat)
