Position Summary:

The Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering (https://engineering.buffalo.edu/civil-structural-environmental.html) ( CSEE ) at the University at Buffalo (UB) invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice (Lecturer). The primary duties of this position are to teach undergraduate courses in our BS Civil Engineering Program. The successful candidate will provide expertise in structural engineering and construction management and will work with other faculty to develop projects and manage the senior capstone design course. The candidate will also collaborate on our Professional Practice course and will teach other courses at the undergraduate or graduate level based on the candidate’s background and the needs of our curriculum. Other duties may include student advisement at the undergraduate and graduate level, cultivating relationships with industrial partners, supervising internships, assessing learning outcomes for accreditation purposes, diversity enhancement, and external educational grant support in collaboration with the CSEE Undergraduate and Graduate Studies Committees. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in civil engineering computing, infrastructure sustainability, and resilience.

Candidates are expected to have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

About the Department

CSEE offers ABET -accredited Bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Engineering and Civil Engineering. At the graduate level, CSEE offers MS/PhD degrees in Civil Engineering, and Environmental and Water Resources Engineering, an MS program in Engineering Sustainability, and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Bridge Engineering.

The Department currently comprises 34 tenure-track faculty, 4 teaching faculty, approximately 500 undergraduate majors, 90 masters’ students and 60 doctoral students. We are currently recruiting up to three additional faculty members (in addition to this position) during the academic year 2023-2024. CSEE scholars routinely engage in collaborations with colleagues from diverse academic disciplines and participate in numerous cross-disciplinary research centers, including academic disciplines and participate in numerous cross-disciplinary research centers including the Institute for Bridge Engineering ( IBE ), Center for Computational Research ( CCR ), the Center for Geohazards Studies, the Stephen Still Institute for Sustainable Transportation and Logistics ( ISTL ), the Structural Engineering and Earthquake Simulation Laboratory ( SEESL ), and the Institute for Research and Education in eNergy, Environment, and Water ( RENEW ).

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering or commensurate field and design experience, and substantial experience teaching in an accredited civil engineering undergraduate program.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional Engineering (PE) licensure; at least ten years of work experience with increasing responsibility in structural engineering, construction management, engineering sustainability, or related fields; or a PhD degree in engineering or related field, along with design experience.
