PACIFIC SHIP REPAIR AND FABRICATION Safety Coordinator in Bremerton, Washington

Job Summary Provides deck plate safety and environmental support to production personnel.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of OSHA's ship board safety rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of Navy Ship's space numbering system.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the marine industry
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding methods and U.S. Navy, local, state and federal health and safety regulations, and characteristics and effects of toxic substances.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Certificate of Completion for Shipyard Competent Person issued by Certified Marine Chemist

Essential Job Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Update tanks and spaces to ensure that they are safe for man and hot work.
  • Provides competent person support to projects.
  • Conduct a daily safety walk through with ships force, SUPSHIP Safety and others that may be involved.
  • Investigate accidents/injuries at the work site. Complete the accident/injury report form.
  • Have the knowledge required to calibrate all safety equipment.
  • Enforces compliance with health and safety rules, procedures and regulations.
  • Performs hazard identification, assessment and control.
  • Interfaces with departments across the organization, with particular emphasis on working with the Operations team to improve safety.
  • Adheres to all PACSHIP organizational policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

Physical/Mental Involvement & Environmental Factors

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to climb stairs, ladders, masts, and scaffolding.
  • Must be able to work at heights and in confined or restricted spaces aboard vessels under construction/repair.
  • Must be able to climb on and around ships.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations.
  • Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching.
  • Must be able to spend up to 70% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates.
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. The noise level is usually moderate to extremely noisy 70% of the time, which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.

Other Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen
  • Must be a US Citizen and pass criminal background check to be able to obtain Credentials to access Government Installations
