Amazon Capacity Management Engineer, AMXL Long Term Planning / Ops Engineering in Bellevue, Washington

Amazon Extra Large (AMXL) is a single-threaded organization with ownership of the end-to-end (E2E) customer experience for large, heavy, and bulky products. AMXL consolidates E2E supply chain: strategy, data analytics, tech, operations, warehousing, order fulfillment, transportation, and delivery. AMXL also offers special handling services such as Room of Choice delivery, Haul-Away, and Installation/Assembly for select items. AMXL currently operates in NA, EU, JP, and IN, with plans for further expansion.

Amazon is seeking an Operations Design Engineer to support the AMXL North America (AMZL NA) Operations Engineering team. This role will manage the capacity of multiple last mile delivery stations and middle mile sort centers and partner with Topology, Operations, Design/Process/Network Engineering, Finance, and other planning teams to build a reliable view of short/mid/long term capacity. In this role, the Operations Design Engineer will drive innovation in developing the future of delivery operations to better serve customers and maximize the utilization of Amazon assets by increasing network capacity with frugal solutions. This is a high visibility role working with senior leaders to enable strategic and tactical decision-making.

Key job responsibilities

  • Support day to day execution of North America AMXL delivery stations and sort center with their capacity planning and management and take ownership to quickly remove constraints and barriers

  • Develop 24-hour operations clocks which optimize the use of time and site resources/constraints while balancing competing objectives

  • Influence building design decisions through high-judgment evaluation of constraints

  • Drive capacity alignment among capacity planning tools and other tools & systems

  • Write effective documents for diverse audiences, including senior leaders

  • Serve as an ambassador for the AMXL Long Term Planning and Operations Engineering team, helping others understand our space and identifying opportunities for collaboration

  • Actively drive progress across multiple efforts in parallel, independently managing priorities and effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners to deliver results

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high quality, cost effective solutions in very short periods of time

  • Cross-pollinate best practices between Engineering and Operations/ACES teams

A day in the life

The role will require daily interactions with Operations, Supply Chain Execution (Mid-term and Short-term Planning teams), Topology, Process/Design Engineering, Launch, and Finance teams to ensure delivery station and sort center capacities are accurate and align with the short/mid/long term requirements. The role develops, maintains, and improves Capacity Management Systems, lead continuous improvement cycles to optimize end-to-end capacity management lifecycle, and creates dashboards/tools to facilitate data sharing for actionable plans with partner teams. The role pulse checks network health through resource availability, design/capacity optimization, operational clocks, future launches, new business program implementations, retrofits, and change management processes. The role needs to have a deep understanding on both business needs and operational standards to be able translate business inputs to operational designs and operational constraints into business plans to ensure network capacity health across the last mile and middle networks for all planning cycles. There will be daily/weekly calls with Planning and Execution teams to review and align on station capacities and Launch teams to ensure resource planning and allocations are in place to meet capacity requirements.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (any discipline) or foreign equivalent or a related field, or 5+ years Amazon experience in similar space

• 3+ years of experience in Design/Innovation Engineering, Manufacturing/Process/Industrial Engineering, or a related field

• 3+ years experience in using data analytics and visualization tools (Quicksight, Power BI, Tableau etc)

• Experience must involve ownership/management of engineering design projects

• Experience in engineering change management projects

• 3+ years experience in using business/technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, statistics, computer science, operations research, business analytics, information systems or equivalent

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and MS Project) at an advanced level

• Knowledge of AutoCAD, VBA, and SQL at the intermediate level

• Proficiency with communicating with data and data storytelling through dashboards, automated SQL reports, and visualizations

• Proficiency with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, and decision making with working experience on tools and systems such as Minitab, MS Excel, and SQL

• Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and mechanisms

• Ability to travel 25% globally to interact with internal and external business/operations stakeholders

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
