SONOCO: Sontheimer Offshore Catering Company Galleyhand in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi

Job is offshore, mainly working on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Position is 84 hours a week, with 21 days offshore and 7 days onshore.

Duties:

Assists in food preparation. Works safely and in a sanitary manner. Unloads and puts away food, supplies, and other material. Cleans kitchen equipment, fixtures, cookware, and serving and dining utensils and dishes. Sweeps, mops, and dusts common areas for which SONOCO is responsible. Cleans bathrooms, including floors, partitions, walls, and all fixtures (toilets, sinks, counters, etc.) Makes beds, cleans under and above lockers, bedroom walls and floors, and empties trash. Actively participates in safety meetings and all other organized safety activities SONOCO requires.

Qualifications:

The Galleyhand position is an entry-level position. No skills are needed. The galleyhand should be able to demonstrate enough literacy to read, understand and perform assigned tasks, and read recipes. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required. The galleyhand reports to and is directly supervised by the steward/cook. Must have knowledge of food coast and inventory control. No felony convictions or misdemeanor drug convictions over the last five years. Have a transportation workers identification credential (TWIC). Which is necessary to be transported to and from the job sites. Must have T-HUET water survival and SafeGulf training. Must be able to pass a physical exam and drug screen
