Job Overview:
The Associate Piping Drafter is an entry-level position, and their work is completed with close supervision and support. They work within clearly defined standard operating procedures and scientific methods and adhere to quality guidelines. The Associate Piping Drafter should have basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process and appropriate licenses/training certifications.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with senior piping draftsmen to prepare detailed piping drawings, isometrics, and layouts for projects in the EPCI (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation) industry
Assist in developing and modifying piping shop or detail drawings based on client requirements, project specifications, and applicable industry codes and standards
Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software and drafting tools to create accurate and precise piping drawings, ensuring compliance with project guidelines and design parameters
Support piping engineers in the analysis and interpretation of design drawings, identifying and rectifying any discrepancies or technical issues
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, designers, and construction personnel to ensure seamless integration of piping systems into overall project designs
Conduct comprehensive reviews of project documentation, such as technical specifications and equipment data sheets, to ensure accurate representation of piping systems
Assist in the preparation and maintenance of piping material specifications, bill of quantities, and other related documents for procurement and construction purposes
Ensure adherence to project schedules and milestones by efficiently managing drafting assignments and providing regular progress reports to project managers
Continuously enhance technical skills and stay updated with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and relevant codes and standards
Extract/detail piping isometrics (design and fabrication) from 3D models or other delivered files
Assist in developing and modifying piping designs based on client requirements, project specifications, and applicable industry codes and standards
Assist Piping Drafter to Update/back draft all drawings including but not limited to:
Piping general arrangements
Isometrics and support details
Bulk MTO summaries (preliminary and intermediate)
P & ID’s and line list
Interface schedules
Isometric index and support schedule
As-Builts
Hydro-test P & ID mark-up
Equipment arrangement
Maintenance access/laydown area
Escape routes
Work Package
Test Package
Weight Monitoring Report
Nesting Layout
Essential Qualifications and Education:
High school graduate with a diploma in Design or Drafting or Associate's degree in drafting technology, engineering, or a related field
Entry level to less than 3 years drafting and/or design experience
Proficiency in using CAD software, such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, PDS, PDMS, or similar tools, for creating piping designs and drawings
Strong understanding of piping design concepts, including isometric, orthographic, and schematic drawings
Knowledge of industry-specific codes and standards like ASME B31.3, API 570, and ASME Section VIII for pressure vessels
Familiarity with EPCI project execution methods, such as FEED (Front-End Engineering Design), detailed engineering, procurement, and construction
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and quality in drawing creation and review processes
Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, clients, and vendors
Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve technical issues with piping designs
